Me and My Laptop

For some odd reason my laptop doesn't seem to like Good Morning, Gather any more. Both today and yesterday I tried posting a comment on that thread and in the middle of typing, my computer just shut itself off. It does this periodically. I am thinking possibly it is trying to overheat, as the fan is constantly running, especially when I keep it plugged in and run the internet. But if I just let it run on battery, it saps up the the battery life quickly. I realize we need to get a new battery, but it drives me half insane when I am in the midst of work or play and my computer decides I am done.

Am I right in my assumption? Is it the fan, or the motor getting too hot? Or could it be something else?

Thanks for your support, Justin. Another problem: I have a mac (desktop) and it is soooooo old (OS 9.2) that I would have to be a millionaire to upgrade it to the latest and greatest and use it for gathering. Any suggestions there?

are you sure you dont have a virus? they will shut you down like this too just to mess with you what os do you have? do you defrag on a regular basis?

I have Windows XP, and yes, we defrag about once a month. Also, we have virus protection, so I don't think it's a virus. I still have a year on our warranty with Toshiba, so if it keeps it up, I am calling them. I just want to pinpoint the exact problem so I can rule out anything else so maybe I won't look like an idiot (so that's a hopeless case regardless but...)

Hah, the link you left in another aricle led me here ! Hope your laptop is working. A couple of years ago I had that problem. There was a disgusting amount of dust inside my CPU, it blocked the fan from cooling the CPU off, and it shut down all the time. I finally took it to a guy who cleaned it for me and my problems where solved !
