This is a true story...
My oldest brother Jim attended the University of Utah. He is quite a bit older than me, so I was only 11, when he graduated from college. He lived in an old apartment building that had beautiful hardwood trim, hardwood floors and high ceilings. I was so impressed with the building as a young child. I remember that there were only two flats per floor, and his neighbor was just a few steps away from his front door. His neighbor was away, when we visited. I remember peering into his flat through the glass pane on the door. I could see a well organized desk, but that is as far as I could see.
We enjoyed my brother's graduation and visiting the city. We are not Mormon, but we visited the Mormon temple grounds. I remember that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang at his graduation ceremony. It left quite an impression on me. We left soon after the graduation, but my brother stayed. I am not sure how much longer he lived there. His live in girlfriend was still attending school.
Jim had spoken frequently of his neighbor and his friend Ted. They worked on his car together. They hung out and drank beer. Ted would come over for dinner and they would shoot the shit for hours into the night. His neighbor travelled a lot. My brother would water his plants, and take care of his place, while he was gone.
One day my brother was home alone in the afternoon, when there was a knock on the door. An FBI agent wanted to ask him a few questions. Jim invited him in. He was nervous. I am pretty positive that he probably had some pot around somewhere. The agent was asking questions about his friend and neighbor. He wanted to know about his comings and goings. How well did Jim know him? Finally Jim just asked him why he wanted to know. The agent said, "If convicted, your neighbor is the biggest mass murder in the US."
My brother was friends with Bundy. He was devasted. Many reporters wanted to interview him, and he declined. He wanted to believe that Bundy was still his friend and incapable of killing women. To think that he was watering his plants, while he was out on a killing spree!
I know that Bundy was murdering sociopath, and you do not run into a lot of these in every day life..
or do you???

You reminded me of a few stories I could tell about people I knew. I'll consider writing articles about them soon.
The Green River Killer was another mass murderer who lived in Washington state.
Very interesting as well, James. I've heard of the Green River Killer in my studies. (I have a serial killer encyclopedia, as a true crime and forensic buff)
Here's an interesting tidbit. I live in a 4-hour radius of where 3 big-name serial killers killed and lived. (Gacy, Gein, and Dahmer.)
I've seen Gein's grave, former property and the store where he killed Bernice Worden (all reportedly haunted). I've also seen where Dahmer was in prison and where he was killed.
It is very scary that they are out there and you would never suspect them to be next door, but they can be.
One of my best friends is currently in jail for robbing a bank.
