Why is your Article not Available?

 Howdy Gatherites...

I just have to vent about something today....

I tried to view an article today that was published to a group that I am in.  When I tried to bring up the article, it loaded saying I did not have permission.  I really wish people would allow all to view their articles when submitting them to groups.  If you want only certain people to view your article, please do not submit to groups.

Another thing I hate when this happens is there is no option to connect with that person so that you could read that article at a later time.  Yes, I am sure if I really wanted to go and connect with that person, I could spend the 20 minutes it takes to load web pages to go and search that person and try and connect with them.  I am on dial up and any site now a days sucks on dial up, and we do not have the option of cable nor dsl services.

Ok, I am done ranting for the time being...

Trish, I cannot blame you for this rant. I can't tell you how many times I go to Articles For Me and when I try to read the article, I don't have permission to do so. Now why would you send me an article that you don't want me to read? I can understand if you looked at and realized that you had to edit it for some reason and it is not available. Maybe that is what has happened because a lot of the time I can go back later on a read the article just fine.
I guess I didn't know that was possible. That really sucks. I figured with that option, if it was submitted to a group, it was set so that anyone in that group could read it.

This has happened to me before. Usually in my expereince, it was a glitch on Gather's part. I know I had permission to read the article I have in mind because the author does allow everyone to view it. It was flagged as intendend for mature audiences, but I had that turned on to allow as well. I never was able to get in and read it. The thing is I was connected to this author. Screwy, huh?

I noticed in publishing an article yesterday, that when I actually published it, the picture didn't download. So I edited it and for some odd reason I had to re-publish it, and it ended up in my inbox twice. I went then and deleted the first one (since it didn't have the picture with it) and kept the first one. Just out of curiosity then, I clicked on the link in the email for the first article and it came up with that same message. Mystery solved! Next one, why did it end up publishing twice when I EDITED it?

This happens to me all the time. I've noticed it mostly with Shannon's recipes. She will post one, and then it will say I don't have permission to view it. I know that isn't the case, if I wait awhile and go back it is fine. I think it is just another one of those glitch things.

I have this happen alot too, and it's usually on an article that sounds really interesting too!! it happens with people i'm connected to, and also in groups I own...it's weird..

I've had this happen too... most times I'll go back to my in box if it came via my e-mail and go to that person's namespace...If the article still exists I can usually get to it that way... this also works from the 'Articles for me'section... I just click on the Icon and go to their namespace page.

I really hate when this happens.. I try and load about 7 articles that I am interested in reading as I go through and delete them when I start to load them... so when it comes up unavailable, it is lost forever and on that page it does not even tell you the author which I wish it would...

Some times this happens when an article has been flagged, I think it is removed untill gather decides what to do with it. Other times you can hit refresh and it will come up.

I hear ya. I live in a rural area and only have access to a satellite connection (beyond dial-up). I can imagine how frustrating this must be.

yep me too!!! it could be slow internet problems. I have DSL and sometimes
it still takes forever to see. sometimes I have to Refresh the page several times, ugh.

I didn't know that this happened but I'm glad you pointed it out and I hope the rant does some good. I'm guessing it will!
