I wish the ones who are in a position to do something about this could read this and remember when they were young..... Coming home to MOM after school, being able to perhaps go out to eat once a week, having dinner with the "family", etc.... When one income was enough to make ends meet... HA---"Live, Love, and Prosper" --- who is actually prospering??? Not I!!! | Whathappened??? At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it. Be sure to read all the way to the end!
Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes Are the rule.
Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat.
Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think.
Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries, then Tax his tears.

Tax all he has Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers, Then tax him some more, Tax him till He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid.
Put these words upon his tomb, "Taxes drove me to my doom..."
When he's gone, Do not relax, Its time to apply The inheritance tax.

COMMENTS: Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national deb t, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What happened?
And I still have to "press 1" for English

The tax rate would go down if I had normal usage I suppose, but there should be a law that caps the rate. 60%!!!!!!!!!! Drives me insane when I think about it.
There are those who sincerely believe that their taxes should be going into an ever expanding war machine while others would cut that and provide more social services. But I guarantee you that if you can save a dollar in one place someone else can show you just where it must go!
For example, when are we going to start paying for this little war and when are we going to start returning the money borrowed from Social Security?
At least I get to save big bucks on tobacco and liquor taxes!
By definition, any tax that supported the public schools was/is a school tax; do you think the public schools lived on air 100 years ago? Liquor and cigarette taxes also long predated the 20th Century. Somebody mentioned the Whiskey Rebellion put down by George Washington. Why were the farmers rebelling? They hated the tax on whiskey!
Some taxes and user fees certainly did not exist 100 years ago. For example, the commercial drivers license. I think it's a very good thing. I don't want some trucking company to be able to send on the road some kid who gets hired if he merely answers positively the question "Can you drive a truck?"
Society is much more complex than it was 100 years ago. Deal with it. And also deal with thge fact that, if you believed every item on the list of taxes that didn't exist 100 years ago, you might need a little refresher in American history and economics.

Some taxes surely didn't exist
