Pet peeves

   On the way to the store tonight, I noticed a sign to "Get your holiday hair cut here".  On the opposite side of the sign there was an ad for a "Holiday package for your hair and nails."   What holiday is this for?  Martin Luther King Day or no, I have it.  Get your hair done for Groundhog Day!  It's only a couple weeks off and you can be the first on your block to have a groundhog hair do!

     Obviously, the sign is a little out of date.  They have had over 2 wks to take it down; couldn't they come up with something else to advertise?    A church that I drive by frequently is a faithful member of the "advertising events that are long finished" group. They promote concerts or get togethers that happened weeks ago.

    Would it be too hard to put up a new sign?  Or just go take down the letters for the out of date sign and leave it blank if you can't come up with something.

    A variant of this annoyance are the signs that have misspelled words on them. When we are typing on the computer, sometimes typos come out.  However, if you are putting up a sign, you should take a few minutes to make sure you know how to spell the words.

Drives me nuts when people have sun bleached signs. They can not make a new paper sign for the window when one fades?

Yes! Things like that really bug me too... I hate it when they say something like "Your going to have the time of you're life", flipping around the YOUR and the YOU'RE. It makes me want to go in there and let them know about their typo... you know? But I don't, I just let it boil inside me, heehee. Vicky's story about the sperm sale is so funny... that is something I would do if I saw a sign like that and still had the nerve to do it.

I dont like either when signs are out dated as well as prices. Like if your in the store and you see something for one price and when you ring out it comes out another price. However most stores will give it to you but others are like "if you look closely you can see the date on the sign" well I dont have time to put my face against the price tag and see what the date on it is. But as for the big signs that are mis-spelled. That is probably because they ran out of letters and dont want to buy a new set just for one letter that they might use every once in a blue moon!

You are right. Businesses get overwhelmed putting our fires or just ground down with loss of energy, and neglect for critical marketing musts avails. Sometimes it is just garden variety slopiness or laziness. That is aggrivating. Nice article, Oh and Happy New Year!

Vicki, I like the SPERM sale. You would think they would come up with a different way of wording it. Or maybe they get business from people who think the sign is funny.

Faith, you sound like you were an English major! I know what you mean. I see a lot of those type of errors here on gather in people's writing. I guess they don't have spellcheck!

Kelli, we have a store around here that does a different version of that. They have the sale price listed by the item but when they ring it up, they don't give you the sale price. If you aren't watching, they essentially cheat you out of the money.

Ha! I was thinking "what's holiday hair?" Is that, like, what you get when Uncle Ned tussles your fro a little too hard or something? Is it a relative of bed head? :)
