Like An Omen
It is mid January.
A bird happily sings from a lone branch.
Silence begins humming its mournful tune, as well,
Like an omen.
Fog has risen to the height of its choosing
And is now abiding in the inner crypts of the soil.
Winter is long overdue but no one is awaiting its arrival.
Is its plan to slowly thwart us with its furious winds and blinding snow?
Or shower us with its effervescent snowflakes that fall on Earth’s wet sod, then melt?
However its plan, its season is here.
Secretly plotting. . . at its own pace.
But the warmth in its season is rather disturbing,
Like an omen.

Weather patterns have changed all over the world lately. Even here in Australia.
I love the personification of the weather "secretly plotting...at its own pace"
As you say, "weather patterns have changed all over the world lately" and I think everyone is a tad perplexed about the differences whether it be attributed to global warming or a cyclical pattern, it is making itself very noticeable. Thanks, Johnny!
Last November we had the coldest November day on record and a week later the hottest day ever recorded. The mind boggles! :)
Your're right! The experts are divided. Some conservative talk show hosts seem to think it's more cyclical. It remains a puzzle, doesn't it?
I remember last November's fluxuation of temperatures well. When it was cold - it was brutal. It was a turning point for me in regard to winter. It had always been one of my favorite seasons but not after this. It was just 'too' cold!
Per weather reports as of today, we are to get below 0 weather this week. It is to progressively get colder with some light snow. Some southern states were hit very hard over the weekend and are still having problems with power outages and dangerous road conditions. One of my friends lives in one of those states and I'm a tad concerned. Somehow the 'plot' ( : ) of winter perplexes me. I fear we will experience the icy chill of winter's breath before spring makes its arrival and winter may decide to invade spring's season as well! We will know after it is all over, won't we?
Thank you for your excellent input, Johnny.
Donna: Winter is perplexing us for sure. I wonder about springtime, too! Strange things are happening all around.
Thank you for your visit. I'm glad you liked the 'fog' line. Fog is a fascinating aspect of nature. Sometimes it reminds me of something good then at other times it reminds me of a lurking danger. I felt because of its mysterious manner at this particular time of 'confusion' about the weather, I would give it a 'crypt' to rest in! (Lovingly, of course! :)
Thank you for your welcomed visit and your insightful comments! :)
Barbra, beautiful words, wonderful imagery!!

Thank you so much. . . your visits are always a pleasure and MORE, Mary! :)
