We have a beautiful silver tureen that I inherited from my mom and it is in dire need of some polishing at this current moment. In the past, it was much more polished (as was I), it had been my habit to have it sitting on my secretary in the living room and filled with my favorite English roses. There is no cover for this heirloom, which lessens its value, but it is still worth something in the hundreds of dollars so I hesitate to display it where any crackhead could break in and take it.
My grandmother was given the tureen as a "gift" from her employer during Grandma's private nursing days in the 1930's. There is a large "B" in script on one side which used to conceal, but after my nephew's wife (she is an interior designer) told me to display it with the letter showing. So now I just tell everyone with a sense of humor that I won it for being the "Bitch of the Year". No one ever questions that. Hmmm.....
It is currently sitting on top of a very old and large speaker in the family room, and currently it contains a handy supply of peanuts for the grey squirrelly beggars who frequent our deck looking for a handout. My Grandmother would be so proud of our practicality, wouldn't she?

I agree, a pic would be nice; and also that you're most certainly not Ma and Pa Kettle - Ma and Pa Tureen, perhaps.
I can also assure you that I have not seen Ma and Pa Kettle in WA - Western Australia, where I live and keep the kettle boiling for coffee.
