I live on the east coast. I have recently started Kayaking as a way to get myself and my son into an outdoor activity and away from our video screens. In the area of Maryland where I live we have a number of nice scenic rivers which feed into the Chesapeake Bay. The largest river is the Susquehanna River. This is a great way to see the Upper Chesapeake Bay and the the tributaries.
I have started off with a very inexpensive kayak and have plans to upgrade to a nicer one. the cheap one came with paddles. I was unsure if my son would take to the sport but so far he has enjoyed it. I have not done any research on Ocean Kayaking in the Atlantic but we will see.
The western part of Maryland has some whitewater where you kayak but I am just starting out with small Creeks and working my way up to Rivers and lakes. I am looking forward to hearing about Kayaking in Alaska and in the Pacific northwest.
