Thursday was my 14 week check-up. I weighed in (gained one pound over 4 weeks ~yeah!), and all that stuff. Then I was taken to the room to wait for my doctor. She walked in a few minutes later with a doppler in hand. She had me climb up on the table (why do they call it a table???) and raise my shirt, lower my skirt. *Squirt* A cold gel was squeezed onto my lower abdomen and she placed the doppler in position as she turned it on and adjusted the volume.
*Whoosh Whoosh* we could hear the sounds of the placenta.
A slight twist of her wrist and there it was "tha-thump, tha-thump, tha-thump" loud and strong. Now matter how often I hear it, it brings tears to my eyes. She measured it at 150 bpm. Could be a boy or a girl (those myths never work anyway!)
I was so glad to hear it. I am always anxious at this time until I hear the heartbeat. It will probably be another week or two before I feel any movement, so it makes me unsure of the condition of the baby between doctor visits.
As I write this, a friend of mine is needing prayer. She went Wednesday for her doctor's visit. The heartbeat could not be found with a doppler nor either sonograms (external and internal). They measured the baby at 8 weeks and the gestation age should be 12 weeks. They are hopeful and have scheduled another visit in a week. But she has also lost a child this same way. Thank you for thinking of her and praying for her. Her name is Susan. I will update when I find out more next week.
