Any one that saw my new years resolution may remember that it was to help people more. I have not changed my promise, but other people just don't seen to want help. Am I the only one that thinks that people that can help should? I tried to arrange slide lectures to teach people how to prepare and recover from disasters such as hurricanes based on what I learned when I developed a special plan in book form written for the people in a non-technical way so they could understand how they could learn to help themselves. My mistake, these kind of people do not want to help themselves by reading a easy non-fiction book. Hardly any sold, but I have not given up.
I decided if no one wanted to learn and do by reading, I would use my speaking talents and time to reach them through special lectures where ever they are that I can get to. First I developed a slide lecture that would cover any amount of time the people would listen. Sent out flyers and e-mail notices to clubs and service organizations, and even libararies in my area, and still no answers.
Latest try was the Salvation Army in my city because they were asking for help due to the need their giving was causing. I liked the Salvation Army and if I could start by helping them, I would be content, and maybe it would lead my to others that are yet to respond. Today, after trying for two months and being told my idea would be helpful but they were too busy during the holiday, I finaly received a answer. They are to busy with their own programs to try raising money with my teaching lectures that I wanted them to charge for their cause and I would provide the teaching free withing the area I could afford, and at expenses only if I had to expend money I can not afford. I am not a rich person. I am just a retired person with a lot of skills that are not being used, and the time to put to use helping people.
I spent a lot of my money on this disaster plan book as I wanted to prepare people before another hurricane struck. If I don't sell another book, it would not bother me if I could reach all you people that need my help. Hey, I have been known as a good stand-up talker, and even intertaining at time and with my 70 slide Power Point lecture I could give most groups a pleasent time while teaching my plan to help them in this troubled time.
I will not give up, and some day you will hear that a disaster plan is available that directly helps the people and let's the city do what they do best. Spend the recovery money of their tax structure and if any is left help the people, or send them somewhere else to live.
NOW I AM ASKING ALL YOU SMARTER PEOPLE OUT THERE TO TELL MY WHAT I AM DOING WRONG. DON'T BE AFRAID TO HURT MY FEELINGS, AS AT MY AGE WHO CARES. I ASK YOU WHAT CAN I DO TO TEACH PEOPLE MY PLAN?

you need to connect with what people want and where they are at...
u have a typical management approach in imposition, rather than assessing the field, I doubt if you are even able to do this, mabye become a bookeeper or something as there is very little intrinsic in where u come from, sorry but a shovel is a shovel
Well, that is sad to hear that people don't want that kind of help. I think people do tend to want help but they want to choose the areas they want help in. We don't get to help them with what WE want too. Did you do any kind of market research for these areas to see if they were interested in your help? I have been doing a lot of research and it says market research is the big first key. One key thing in wanting to help people is to ask people individually 1) Do they want help and if so 2)what kind of help do they need? Perhaps your mission to help may be in other areas. Also, and this is just a thought, but a lot of people don't want to think about castrophes (spelled incorrectly I know) because it makes them nervous. One thing I read was that if you try something for a year and it doesn't succeed then you may need to change your approach. Good Luck!
1. Watch the suffering after Katrina, and other 2005 hurricanes and volunteer to help the planners with the recovery of all the homeless people, based on my disaster plan developed over many years.
2. No response, so wrote book and published in 30 days unedited to make the time schedule to help the people. Made the book readable to non-techical people hoping they would read and push for help. No Luck.
3. Fully re-edited the book and republished because I didn't want an unedited book on the shelf with my name. Still was the same story written for the non-technical person. Three times the cost thus far and still no one interested.
4. Tried another method to get information to the people by using my speaking and teaching skills to give lectures to any group that was interested. The lectures were made for intertaining talks of up to 1 hour using power point slides to increase interest. No charge was requested for these lectures, including purchase of my books. They were free without conditions, and the group was free to charge what ever they wished to help their charity if they wished. All groups were contacted, mostly by letter, including libararies what may have book clubs, social and service clubs, and others that work to help people.
5. The book that I was publishing before the hurricane books seems to be going well. I also spent a lot of money on this book and worked on it for many years so hope it will soon be on many book shelfs.
6. Posted my status on this site to get some feed back from all the good people on Gather that I have been chating with that seem to have good and fair answers to everything.
7. Where I am right now is marketing my books on web sites, selling to stores, etc through the sales and distributing outlet I set up, and waiting for the sales to increase while developing another book I started years ago. Forget about the people and try to make back some of my money that I spent.
8. Money is nice, but I still want to help people. I live in Richmond, VA and if anyone is out there that would like to listen to my preparation and recovery plan, I am still free, except for expenses, and willing to respond to your request if I can meet the time and place.
9. Thanks again to your response, and help me to help you and your freinds. You have nothing to loose buy your clubs, or groups time as I am highly experienced in my field, retired, and have the time to give you.
