Hi everyone
Today is Adele G’s birthday. Adele has been a member of gather since Feb 9. 2006. She has been blessing us ever since with her wonderful stories of Rigoletto her cat and my favourite little hooligan, Billy Boy Bandit. She tells me she isn’t a writer, can you imagine that? Her story was so well written I am publishing it here in its entirety. I didn’t have to write anything at all.
I've been happily married to my wonderful, funny, and loving husband for twenty-four years. I have two step-daughters, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. We've lived in Russellville, AR, since 1993.
My husband and I are retired from a natural gas pipeline company located Houston, TX. We worked for the same company all our working careers, but only met when the company moved its headquarters from Shreveport, La. to Houston in 1975. We both moved into the same apartment complex and met at the bus stop. When I first saw him I somehow knew I was going to marry him. Even though we both worked for the same company I don't remember seeing him until that day at the bus stop. He said he remembered me because I was the "stuck up redhead," he would say hi to when he came into the drafting department.
I most certainly have never written professionally, I only wish I were that good. I started writing stories mainly about my cat in 1999.
Two of my grandchildren inspired me to write. When they were little I use to make up stories, never knowing when I began the story where it would end. I guess the stories I told them entertained them enough that every time we came to visit they wanted me to tell them a story. Then when they were grown they wanted me to write some of the stories I had told them. The one they seemed to like the best was a story about the Candy Mountain. I've written some about the Candy Mountain using my cat Rigoletto and the central character, but I've never finished it.
Hobbies? I really don't have any hobbies, but when I have the time I like to listen to classical music and watch video's of opera's.
I love the mountains and like to walk mountain trails. I love shopping on QVC.
Yes, cell phones should be banned. But people who leave shopping carts in the middle of the isle in grocery stories like they think they are the only ones shopping in the store, tears me up. That's number one pet peeve!
I don't know if you'd call this a social issue, but I think our country is going the way of the old Roman Empire, but fast.
I cannot think of an outstanding event in my life other than the Lord has blessed me greatly.
My one wish is that I would love to go to an opera at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.
My 40th. birthday I will never forget. I worked with about 18 wonderful, crazy, prank playing draftsmen. I knew they would not let my 40th birthday slip by without doing something memorable for me. I feared that day when I opened the door and walked in the office. There strung across our huge drafting room was a huge banner announcing to everyone in the company Adele's 40th birthday. I took calls all day long. They did give me a nice cake.
My special birthday wish is that I'd love to go to Italy and see all the famous art treasures, dine on real Italian food and wine. And of course see an opera.
My birthday song that I would love Janelle to post for me is a song by my favorite popular singer Perry Como, "Till The End Of Time."
Adele has chosen as her article a story I wrote about a special friend. http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474976839426
Adele your grandchildren are correct you are a natural born storyteller and you need to write.
Happy birthday Adele from all your friends at gather and remember you are never too old to celebrate a birthday. I can’t wait to celebrate my 100th birthday and believe me I am going to do it with style!
Note to the birthday club members. If you have not yet submitted your birthday dates to me please to so. I need to prepare well enough in advance. Furthemore, when I send you the questions to do your celebration I need to have them back, at least one day prior to your birthday.
