He sucked the blood and dipped his brain,
Sat out in the acid rain;
Consuming thoughts and cheap desire,
Quenched himself in hellish fire.
This man of God was man no more
And stood outside of heaven’s door,
Deciding now that life was done
How he might pursue his fun
Of ever chasing after goals
Of screaming men and burning coals
And briskly scraping off his skin
While bursting doors and walking in.
His life, a life of brave defeat
In light of all he came to meet;
For in the grip of Satan’s claw
He lifted up his eyes and saw
A gentle Hand extending down,
A perfect Face with loving frown
That begged him to return again,
But this man looked on other men;
And smiling, looked to God above
And fast rebuked that ever-Love.
"Leave me now and ever more."
He walked on through the flaming door.
