Mondays are the bane of the working man and woman. I worked for many years and believed the Sunday dread of Monday morning had something to do with that loss of freedom one experiences when a new work week calls us to task. Monday is the evil twin of Friday, that glorious day when the worker is set free from corporate indenture, the boss's stare, fellow employee's annoying habits and the endless list of things to do that can wait...wait until Monday!
Extending this thought, I came to believe that January felt as if it were a month of Mondays. Maybe it is that macro list of things to do we compile over the holidays to amend for all the things we didn't do last year. There is the "I'm going to be a better person" list of New Year's resolutions; lose weight, save more, drink less and write that letter to your favorite old aunt that doesn't have a computer. Let's not forget all those calendars you get for free from the Insurance guy, the local realtor you don't know, the feed store, the market and the charity you've never contributed to. There are enough Mondays on those calendars to fill a lifetime!
With all these reminders and promises it is no doubt that the first month of the year feels like a month of Mondays. I'd be interested in your thoughts about January!
Cheers,
Colonel Possum

January to me is a new beginning of renewing one's self. I've often felt that once December rolls around, it's a time to think of others and not yourself. People like me, wait for January to get a fresh start...on alot of "wished I had's".
New attitudes form. New goals for myself. And yes alot of new expectations come from my mouth. I personally look forward to a new day to make better than the one I had yesterday.
You get the best positive comment (so far) award. I think I'll take the dogs for a walk.

I bet you've chased the Monday Blues far far away!
Here's something fun to do today...say, "One Eleven Two Thousand Seven"
Isn't that a lyrical treat? Good song title for something conceived in the Sixties.

You're cool!
Happy Thursday,

You might be getting a tan before March with this goofy weather!

I'm with 100%! Don't start anything on a Monday. If January is a month of them, that puts you into February. Ooooh Weeeee....

This is a true January classic! Thank you for a poetic thought, now clear out some of that molasses.

...and everyday is getting a little longer!
Thank you,

I share your distinct dislike of Mondays for the very reasons you list yet I cannot scoff at my birth month of January...with one exception--as a small business owner of several years I've pavlov'd myself into January-begins-tax-season when the papers must be more organized and the year passed must be detailed for the gov! eeeuw-w-w-w! Ruins a happy birthday.
April cometh all right...
I have a birthday in January too, later in the month, I'm an Aquarius! You have great discipline to start taxes in January. For my small business, I typically go for the automatic extension and face the music in July to make the 8/15 deadline.
Love your Eye-con.

You've got the right idea! Down with calendars, enjoy the moment. Thank you.

I think this why month has felt like a Sunday because we haven't had any snow. Snow means a down time for me i don't go anywhere or do anything but sip hot coco and enjoy the day, and after the holidays I need that down time from a snowy day.
very nice article I enjoyed the read!!
I agree with you. The ole Colonel looks forward to those shut-in days when you can just do fun stuff and blame the weather for blowing a few scheduled chores.
Thank you!

I try to make Monday, part of Sunday, now that I am retired...so I actually start my week on Tuesday, if I possibly can, thus solving this problem.
Thank you for your early-in-the-year insight! Here are some gift ideas for your son in China:
1) A jar of air from your delightful yard
2) A picture of you doing Feng-shui arrangements of his favorite things
3) A song in a 5-note pentatonic scale
Cheers & happy birthday to your son,
Colonel Possum
It's a month of extremes...hangovers (not mine), after-holiday blues,
the boss all recharged for another bigger-better year of capitalistic bliss,
snow, ice, cold engines, cats under comforters, books, luscious seed & flower catalogs, my birthday...again (fifty-x th time oh dear!), crystal clear night skies, and snow lit cloudy canopies at mid-night. A month of Mondays - yes indeed and a month of friday nights as well. Happy January!
