Imagine yourself in germany or anywhere that you do not understand the language...you are standing in a crowded market place and all you here around you is babble....once you have masterd the said language...you have meaning...however (Hodges 2000) Mayer 1993) found that speech recognition can be found from non speech sounds. (Hodges 200) demonstates that given the right cues an individual will recognise a message to them in the sound even though there is none.....when people here short burst of white noise, such as with consonants and softer tones such as with vowels given the right suggestion, they will hear something to do with that cue...ie, subkects told that someone died in a fire, will listen to a recording of a voice from beyond and say that the voice was saying for example Help me Im burning, where as the subject that was not given a pre-suggestion might hear nothing in the recording or may perhaps give a completely different verdict as to what was said.....consonants and vowels are very different in frequencies, the cosonant being the sharp short higher frequency and the vowels being the lower longer softer frequency.....clear as mud? I remain skeptical about such phenomena but there again, many people do believe in it...I think I would be wary or rather if I was asked to listen to a supposid recording from beyond the grave..I think it would be best not to be given any presuggestion as to who the person was, where they died Etc...nice article again tho Martha thanks keep them coming in..xx
