Yep. It's only Jan 6th today. Yes only 6 days into the new year and Mardi Gras season is upon us. This year will be pretty significant for the New Orleans area as this should be the year when all Mardi Gras crews are rolling back at full steam since before Hurricane Katrina. Two parades rolled today out in the New Orleans area, one in town and one in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans.
As a family we don't go to parades out in New Orleans just for safety reasons. We usually stay right here in our area which will have about a total of 16 parades. We didn't miss any of the parades last year as we weren't as affected by Katrina as New Orleans area was because we are to the southwest of New Orleans. Don't get me wrong, several of the areas down the bayous are still in shambles, but where we live, we had minimal damage.
So what does Mardi Gras mean to you? A big ole drunken party, a time to let loose, or something more? For us, Mardi Gras is a time to share with family and friends. We bring the barbeque pit and cook out on the parade route, we love king cakes, and oh the pecan one is to die for. We catch the parades and just sit there and enjoy our day, family and friends. No hassles, well except for the ocassional drunk who happens to stumble by and spill his beer near where I am sitting.
Due to dh health, he only drinks non alcoholic beer, I drink no alcohol whatsoever. I stay out of trouble that way.
Well I just wanted to annouce that Mardi Gras season was upon us, I hope to get some great pics,
