On impeachment

Bush was overall an ineffective leader. Osama bin Laden remains free. Americans are still dying (3000 american soldiers - meeting the 9/11 death toll), rendering a "war on terror" useless and waste of life. Our own intelligence detail says we are even WORSE off in terms of stopping terrorism.
Bush has got to be history's worst president.

I think it would be a waste of time but more importantly, it WOULD prevent the Dems from doing any serious work in this Congress so perhaps it would be a good thing? People would see the nonsense, adjust their opinions accordingly and the right would be back on Easy Street.

Impeachment used to be a threat until Pres. Clinton was impeached and the populace saw nothing came of it. Now it seems to be an empty threat thrown around to simply harm the person in questions moral standing. I also don't see that there is enough time to do this and quite frankly, aren't there better things we could do with our time than spend the time and man hours on impeachment which won't really solve a thing?

I think title has a typo. It says "On Impeachment", it should say "No Impeachment"

I would be seriously ticked if Congress wasted more taxpayer money by attempting an impeachment.

There is nothing to impeach him for...sorry, but first you would have ot prove that he did something warranting it...other than far left talking points, there just isn't anything there....

Some would say that GWB _CLEARLY KNEW_ the strong reasons for invading Iraq, and plunging an otherwise orderly society into chaos were based on lies.

And the win for the morality minority was referring to Clinton. The faithfulness question was brought up because we all saw how that turned out.

Yes, I hope that we don't want to squander more time, energy, and money on the vapors of a closing presidency.

I don;t think impeachment would help anyone at this point but I do know that I will always remeber these 8 years with a shudder, and I wait for the next election with my fingers crossed that no more damage can be done between now and then

How much more serious can it get than taking a country into an illegal war which costs thousands of US servicemen their lives, gutting the Constitution, attempting genocide in the name of the USA, destroying our credibility around the world, attempting to pass legislation that effectively makes the President a dictator with no accountability, and plunging our country into severe debt after we'd finally gotten into the black in the 90's? I could go on (and on and on), but you seem to have already made up your mind that your good-ole-boy George can do no wrong (or, as he likes to put it, "it isn't wrong if the President does it.")

So many of you used a form of the phrase "waste of time." I guess you get Rupert Murdoch's memos directly, or do you get your evil talking points from Bill O'Reilly? Since when is participating in your government a waste of time?

Let me leave you with this thought: If one "President" acts with complete impunity, changing rules, ignoring laws, and even causing the deaths of thousands of our citizens, and the People don't even bother to INVESTIGATE whether he should be removed, what message are we sending every other President for the next hundred years? I'll tell you what message: You are the Boss of the World. Do anything you want, including wiping out whole populations if you want. To hell with the Constitution; rules don't apply to you. You are all-powerful and accountable to no one.

(And to think we left Britain because we objected to the supreme rule of kings!)

Frankly, I believe it's not a waste of time or money. GWB is guilty of war crimes, lies, invasion of US privacy and obstructing Americans' civil liberties. The only crime I can think of is the one in which we are sitting back allowing him to play President and put our lives and future generations pocketbooks at stake.

Karen, those of us who think that impeachment would be a waste of time do so because we believe it would be a waste of time. There aren't any people that have commented for this thread that lack the capacity to think for themselves. You demean your argument by claiming that the only reason we would say this would be because someone else told us to. That is crap and worthy only of the truly ignorant.

Bush has violated numerous federal and constitutional laws. To NOT impeach would be a travesty of justice and a disservice to the American public. That said, it will require democratic investigations to unravel the myriad of lies and lawbreaking that have been the centerpiece of the most corrupt, criminal white house to have ever abused the American populace. God speed, democrats. Bring us home the bacon.

Clark, there isn't enough time to mount an impeachment. An impeachment would consume too much time and energy.

I wonder how you afraid-of-'wasting'-timers would feel if your child were murdered and when you cried for justice, the DA merely whined, "Gee, investigating and prosecuting...wouldn't that be a huge waste of time and money?"

Neither money nor time is ever better spent rthan when it's spent on justice.

We need justice for our troops, for the families of the slain, for every American citizen who's had to live in fear during this awful time, and for humanity as a whole. When other world leaders commit war crimes and crimes against humanity, we're the first to call for their expulsion from power, for prosecution by world courts, for JUSTICE. I love America, but not so blindly that I think the rules of human society don't apply to us.

Are we going to move into a state of existence where every time Congress and the President are of opposite parties, we will demand an impeachment. I see us going down that road and it is not pretty.

As for the illegal wiretaps and opening letters, the courts are still out on whether or not that was illegal. Maybe we could wait for an actual higher court decision on the issue?

Not if he acted in good faith. Prove that he didn't. There is enough difference of opinion in the courts that I doubt anyone could ever convict him. I am sure he sought legal advice before starting the program.

Why have Impeachment in our political lexicon at all? Of course President Bush should be Impeached. This country has been through hell and high water since Bush became President. And the buck does stop on the President's Desk. Rather than listing the many impeachable offenses, One-Negligence as Commander In Chief...I'd prefer to think Positive as Impeachment being a healing process for the country. I don't think the country would divide on this issue, Bush has earned Impeachment and Congress should give it to him. Once Impeached, the great people of this country can come together to build a new future. Impeach Bush, for the good of all Americans. My opinion, of course. Shared it be.
