Writing Challenge - Autism and effects on family and friends

I am so grateful for all the comments I received on my story Ellis and the big blue Hug

So many of you have shared your concerns and your own personal stories. It got me to thinking why doesnt everyone who has experiences or stories to tell about childhood Autism write an article for medical breakthroughs and support group, let's get out there and support one another, offer suggestions and just be a friend.

What's the difference is another site where we can compare the differences between autism, aspergers and any other autism type disorder

I don't have the "real life in home" experience you do Carol...only the classroom experience and that pales in comparrison with yours. I will give it some thought though and see if I can come up with something....although you are a hard act to follow! :-)

good autumn if I come across any as I am more into the human side of autism writing by ordinary people, than in the scientific side I will certainly post them

I keep wanting to write about living with autism in our home.....but I haven't found the time lately! We have 2 sons, one is 8 and has Down Syndrome and is severely autistic. Our other son is 13, and lives with ADHD and Asperger's. there is never a dull moment in our house. Tonight at dinner, our youngest "L" had too much ranch dressing on his plate.....he is non verbal, so there was lots of noise..yelling, etc to let us know it wasn't right. "G" on the other hand was convinced that the meat was way too hard to chew. (we had deer steaks for dinner), and I had also cut them into an uneven number of pieces....... so, yeah, I have real-life stories......now to find the time.......

I as many don't have much hands on experience with Autism, However I do have experience with "Prader-Willies" which is a sub type of Autism. So I have read up on Autism and Compared the two to find out all the differences and similarities. I find that in my readings Autistic kids are the most loving and caring kids you will ever know! Extremely Bright and very Creative whether in music or arts. Being in the home health field I would LOVE to work with an Autistic child :) See how they work see how they learn and get hands on understanding. :) An autistic child is a gift from heaven in my opinion!

Melissa what beautiful thoughts, please do write some of your experiences and submit them to medical breakthroughs and support group and what's the difference, I would really like to learn more about prader-willies

I used to sub in the special needs preschool and also in the school system. Several kids had autism, some had Asperger's. We are just on the tip of the iceberg in terms of learning about complex neurological issues.
