My oldest cookbook is a Gold Medal Cook Book from 1917. It came into my collection by way of an internet friend and belonged to her mother. The friend now lives in an assisted living home and wanted her cookbooks to go to someone who would treasure them. We got to chatting online and she decided to trade this one to me for an extra copy of Joy of Cooking that I had, for her daughter.
There is a page in the back of the small paperback cookbook where you could order more copies for 10 cent each. On the front cover my friend's mother had written "Very Dependable, started with this". I know to some people this would take away from the value of the cookbook but to me it makes it even more special knowing someone used it. It is in fairly good condition to have been loved and used. I know there are older and more valuable cookbooks out there but this one has a special place in my heart and in my collection.
