Well, A New and Improved Congress!~And A Women as Speaker of the House!

Let the fun and games begin--

 

Congress convened today with Democrats in control of both the House and Senate for the first time in a dozen years.

 

Another most important first, California Democrat Nancy Pelosi has become the first woman to be elected speaker of the United States House of Representatives..

 

This is a great first for woman everywhere and hopefully for the whole Nation, A democratic Congress...Lets just hope and pray there will be a difference that will be to the benefit of all Americans in some way..

Don't hold your breath. The last time democrats controlled Congress and the presidency they did nothing. Nothing about Social Security, nothing about dependence on foreign oil, nothing about our borders. It seems regardless which part is in power the prime objective is the perpetuation of the political establishment itself. That, it seems, is the only issue on which the parties find commonality.

You know, there is not a lot of talk about dismantling the military industrial complex which takes up 4 fifths of our budget.

Down size that, then I will agree that something big has changed, otherwise, its business as usual.

I am just glad to see more women and minorities taking positions of influence. It will make the issues looked upon reflect more of us.

You are flat out wrong, E.F., O mighty mouthpiece of Republican apologetics.

It was the republican congress that began spending the Social Security surpluses to meet their Balanced Budget requirements.
And it was the republican Congress who whittled away fuel efficiency standards that had created the only decline in oil demand since WWII.

Give life Lauren, you mean while she continues to support the right of women to have partial birth abortions?

My life isn't going to change a whit because a woman is speaker. I would have preferred that honor to someone who deserved it rather than someone who outlasted the other democrats. Becoming speaker is an accomplishment arising from attrition rather than skill.

Oh yeah, perhaps one of you will send her some excedrin - she must have a helluva headache from breaking through that marble ceiling.

If Pelosi had any mettle to prove, I would give her credit for it. Once again, you are trying to make your point by personal attack on me. It doesn't work. Calling me a bitch adds nothing to the conversation. Make Jane Harman speaker and I will be impressed to pieces. She would actually have to run for election since she wouldn't get it by attrition and unlike Pelosi has both ethics and brains. A fitting combination for the post

The only way both Bush AND Cheney will be out of the way is because Pelosi and her merry band of thugs have decided to try to do something about it. Sort of smacks of a power grab doesn't it?

Pelosi represents my district, so maybe I should be for earmarks?

Impeachment is the remedy given Congress for lawless and law-breaking presidents. George W. Bush has committed many high crimes and will no doubt have committed more before hearings could even be convened.
