What does religion mean to you? Is religion an important part of your life?
I find religion interesting. I see it as a philosophy, as a way one either thinks about life or as a guide to live by. I'm not conservative. My political views tend to be liberal and I find myself becoming more of a Libertarian. Government has no place in social issues and less government makes the world better. I also believe that all religions are equal and valid whether they be Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhist, or whatever. No one religion is better than any other.
As I've gotten older I've found religion to play a more important part in my life. It certainly has nothing to do with the fear of death. Death does not scare me. Like Timothy Leary, I believe death is just another journey.
I've always wondered why people believe in God. All societies have some concept of God. Purely from a philosophical point of view, why? Why do people believe in God?
It will be interesting to see how religion evolves in American life. The United States is certainly one of the more conservative countries in the world. It will be interesting to see if religion plays an important role in America or if America becomes a victim of religion.

Many of us believe in God because of the peace and joy that he brings to our lives. Follow Satan for a while and you will see how far off kilter things can get.
Before one G-d was introduced to this world, people worshipped the sun, the moon, different idols to pray to, to give them rain, fertility, and so on.
There seems to be an innate need for man to believe in G-d to explain all these inexplicable things that happen to him to him. That's my opinion! I also feel that the belief in afterlife eases the pain of death. If we believe that the person went to a much better place, it makes us feel better.
Very interesting comments. I do believe that religion played more of a role in life when man knew less about his environment and the world. Now that society had gotten smarter, at least in some areas, religion will need to adapt.
