Here's a quick one.

How come so many people refer to "they" when talking about idiots while refering to "us" when talking about intelligent people?

Considering the general assumption that there are way more idiots than intelligent people out there, is this a case of a rather large group of people absolutely clueless about how idiotic they really are while pretending, every chance they get, to claim they're intelligent.

What's your take on this?

I do talk about idiots as "they" but I also talk about the intelligent folks as "they" as well. I would love to think I could be part of the "we" that are intelligent, but I tend to assume that I fall smack dab in the middle. So the only time I use "we" is when I relate to the common, middle of the road people.

I have noticed what you're talking about though. Some of my coworkers are famous for including themselves when they talk about the smart people of the world.

When you say "they say that.....", no one is held responsible for their views or correctness. It's easy to make an assertion, since you can't identify the person making the claim and agree/disagree.

My dad has often been one to say, "they say." But sometimes that just indicates a gullibility. I think we need to transcend the whole "Us vs. Them" mentality, because it just seems to be part of a Hegelian dialectic. In other words, create a problem, then offer a "solution" which just protracts the problem. The elites are just trying to divide us (hence, Red vs. Blue states). Look at the whole, and how we can expand freedom for everyone. Then we can see beyond the mainstream media's simplistic and generally self-serving presentations -- which usually leave out crucial facts and revelations!

It depends on what you mean by "intelligent" and "idiot".
Do you mean the maths guru who has no clue why his girlfriend gets so nervous because he was busy making calculations while she was waiting in the rain?
Or the "idiot" who cares for everybody except himself?
Anyway, I prefer the harmless idiot to the harmful "smart".
