Please send a card to a recovering Marine at...

(This was an email I received today from my DAR Chapter in Bremerton, WA--webduck)

I know that you are very busy, preparing for the Christmas holiday. In the spirit of generosity, and kindness please read the following request and consider sending a few quick cards to our hero's in the Bethesda Hospital .

I know that we can't do it all, but we can do a little. As Mother Theresa said, "We can do no great things; only small things with great Love."

The Marine Liaison at Bethesda Hospital where wounded Marines return stateside to recover, or for rehabilitation, reports that they have not been receiving enough Christmas or Thinking of You cards for the number of wounded at the hospital. When you are preparing your Christmas cards this year, please include a card to:

A recovering Sailor or Marine

thankyou, webduck! although i Never send Christmas(or any other kinds of) cards; for this i am breaking my long-standing phobia. my son was a marine; my father was a naval man; one of my beloved cousins was in the navy and died 2 yrs. ago from being directly sprayed with agent orange(not once, but two times). another beloved cousin never came all the way back from viet nam(he was a 'point' man in the marines); they liked him soo much, that they sent him there for Three tours of duty. My mother's baby brother was a RAF pilot shot down over germany in WW 2, and on and on it goes.

although i am not enamored of the military, i am absolutely, unceasingly grateful to all the men and women throughout time who have served their countries. i will send warm and thankful greetings to them.

Thanks everyone! Our son is a prior service Marine (once a Marine, always a Marine), as was my uncle Jim. I think we have almost all services represented between my family and my husband's. Maybe, what we could do is take that address and put it in our address books, and set a reminder in Outlook (if that is what you use) to send some cards every few weeks? They are recovering year round, not just at Christmas.

I hate war, but I respect and honor our military.

right here with you, webster. even tho i'm not fond of military, still i do respect and honor it, and i do hate war.

great idea to do reminder. some will go home soon, some will be there quite awhile, and every week brings more. some have families who support them, but many have no one at all, and nothing is more depressing and disheartening than feeling Really alone. it's amazing what even One card from a total stranger can do to lift one lonely, injured or ill person Way up!
