Will we? Will we have a white Christmas!? Oooh, I hope so!

Considering this is Minnesota, we SHOULD have snow on the ground, for goodness' sake. Thus far we've received (in the cities, anyway) .03 inches of snow. That's right, POINT ZERO THREE. It's just plain sad, is what it is. In fact, we set a record for least amount of snow for November/December.

Huh, and there are those who say there's no global warming. We're getting Kansas winters now in Minnesota!

The weather folks are predicting snow starting late tonight and through tomorrow, just in time for Christmas. Oh, I hope they're right!

*Zelda's lonely in the Lounge. She decides to go sledding and throws on her jacket, boots, mittens, scarf, and Fargo hat. She digs out an old sled from the garage and walks to a nearby park with a terrific hill.

Hmmm. Yes, it IS rawther boring. Still, cool wheels.

I love snow. I figure if it's going to be cold, it might as well be pretty, and give us something to do, like ski or sled.

Yes, by late March, I'm usually sick of snow, but these past several winters have been so short that it's not that bad to have snow in March. I mean, when we used to get dumped on in late November, early December, then four solid months of snow was kind of long... but lately we seem to have at most three months with snow. It's WEIRD to this Minnesota girl.
I couldn't care less if there's snow. I don't know what's wrong with me this year. I'm glad it's warmer than usual. I battled one lake effect blizzard a couple of weeks ago and figure I'm done for the winter.

It was really weird to live in Northern California during Christmastime. I lived in the foothills of Mt. Diablo and they were emerald green because of all the rain. On occasion, it would snow on Mt. Diablo and people would drive up to go look at it. The first year I lived out there I returned to MN to one of the coldest winters in recent memory.

When I was a kid growing up in Southern CA, we used to gather up tumbleweeds and make snowmen out of them by spraying on canned flock and dressing them up like Frosty. Ahh, the memories.........

You can't steer them at all, so the ride down is awfully exciting!

I have such fond memories of the warming house and ice rink by my childhood home. The smell of wet wool, the initial blast of heat on entering the warming house, the pounding sound of the skates clomping on the wood floor...
and there was always a hunky teenage boy "in charge" of the place, to keep the kids from running totally rampant. One time, I saw the warming house guy kissing a girl behind the warming house! Oooh! (They were both about 14 years old, but seemed like grownups to me.) I couldn't wait to kiss someone behind the warming house. Sigh. It never happened.

I used to go skating with my kids back a few years ago...it was a hoot.

I used to play "boot hockey" back in HS (intramurals) and through college...we used a sponge puck and I developed a wicked slap shot...it put the fear of God into players on the other team...

We used to play every Sunday night no matter the weather...from 6pm until the lights went out at 11pm...man, what a blast that was...

I'm glad I had my meeting at the humane society last night, rather than tonight. It's bad enough driving in rush hour traffic from downtown Mpls. to Burnsville, without adding icy roads to the mix.

I get to drive from Golden Valley to Roseville at rush hour. Yipee.

I'm considering leaving work early, I'm almost caught up.
His name is Stan. He drives the 16A

Sometimes my limo drive's name is Vang, and he drives the 50S
Lived in Illinois when I was in hs and jr high. That was when I learned that there was no recreational use for snow other than sneaking it down girls' tops. My memories of ice skating mostly involve walking home with my pants frozen solid. I thought getting my ear frostbitten was kind of fun. It felt funny. I reached up and squeezed it. I heard a crack.

I live in the shadow of Mt. Diablo. I have no desire to get any closer the snow that occasionally falls there than the distance from my house.

My father took it upon himself to create a professional-grade ice skating rink in our back yard for several years while I was a kid. Though a terrible skater (don't have enough strength in my ankles) I was unnaturally popular those winters.

I was never much of a skater either. My cousins had a pond in their back yard that we used to skate on at Christmas time, sometimes around Thanksgiving if it was cold enough. I preferred playing snow football with them up at the jr. high school by their house. Much more fun.

That's true Melinda. I cracked my head plenty of times on the ice. I still have a phobia about ice skating. Too many bad memories about it. That and hockey pucks hitting you in the shin or ankle without any extra padding or protection. Ouch!

I was hit square in the mouth with a hard puck when I was in junior high...I had braces on my teeth and no mouth guard (not a hockey player).

I had to peel my lips from my braces...

I rinsed the blood from my mouth at the warming house...made sure I had all my teeth...and went back out to play...

the snow has subsided quite a bit here, but we're not out of the woods yet. Of couse, if this happened in March, we'd all pishaw it and take it in stride. The first snowfall always throws us in a tizzy.
