Young man hurt by cannon threatened by parents, students

A young man who was hurt after a cannon blast at his high school football game ripped a hole through his leg, is now being threatened by parents and other students in his small town. It seems they don't want his injury to prevent the school from being allowed to continue its long tradition of firing the cannon before games.

Thats a crazy story, while they're worried about their precious cannon, I wonder if they care that his leg coulda got blown completely off!!

Thank you for sharing this. I was sickened by the attitude of the town's people. Yes, traditions are important but this community has their priorities backward. A community is supposed to help build character in the young people. Instead this young man, who apparently did nothing wrong is being ostracized by people who feel that a custom is more important than a young man's life. SAD!

I agree, Audrey! He could've lost his leg or died. The poor kid had planned to go to the military and probably now will not be able to. So now he can no longer fulfill his life's dream, but who cares about that, as long as their precious cannon is OK!

This is a sad commentary on how much importance is put upon sports...to the extent of someone suffering injuries and threats due to the ending of a "tradition". It's times like this that I wonder what we've come to encouraging the hero worship of sports figures!

We get a lot of articles like this in the Seattle Area.
and
We supposedly enjoy one of the highest literacy rates in the country.

Perhaps other areas have stories like these but the people who experience them cannot put their experience into words?

It's ridiculous s**t like this that is helping to destroy my already dwindling supply of compassion for my fellow inmates here in Asylum-Earth.
Maybe they should just teach the a**hole in charge of the cannon not to point it anywhere that could prove harmful to man or beast.
Better yet, have the friggin' coach sit on it. LOL
