I am sorry I am getting it in pretty much under the wire, but today December 19, 2006 is Virginia M’s birthday.
Virginia M is a native Virginian, but lived most of her life in and around the beautiful mountains of Upper East Tennessee. She has been a member of gather since August 31, 2006.
She is divorced and un-involved with anyone at this time. She has three children and five grandchildren. Virginia baby sits two of my grandsons, takes care for her 80 year old dad, and works part-time. Her job allows her to have interaction with an array of people, and she finds it interesting and enjoyable.
She has very little time for hobbies, but at some point, she hopes to travel and see some of the world. The past years have been given, for the most part, to caring for family/ raising the children/homemaker type responsibilities. She explains, “I’m not complaining or wouldn’t change it, because I wouldn’t be who I am now.”
From this point forward I will let Virginia tell her story.
When I was a kid, I remember a teacher asking the class what we wanted to be when we grew up. I answered, ‘An Author, An Author.’ Since then, I have written some, but not done anything for profit- as yet. My dad is responsible for inspiring me to love words. I have written mostly poetry, through the years, and read some religious poetry in church. In August I discovered Gather. That was a most wonderful find, but I believe I have became addicted to the site!
Besides Gather, and writing, I like drives in the country, and long walks beside the lake. Also, there’s nothing like soft rain falling on a tin roof!
I don’t have many ‘pet peeves’ because I am a very patient, easy going sort of person. One thing that does bother me though is people trying to conduct business while talking on a cell phone!
A social issue that upsets me is the way healthcare works (or doesn’t work!)! It is a shame that insurance companies wield so much power as to tell doctors their patients can no longer get certain drugs, even though the patient has been on the medication for a long time, and it is very necessary for their well-being!
There have been several important events in my life, but one I will mention here is: In the 70’s I gave a baby daughter up for adoption. I never forgot her through the years, and always somehow knew she would find me again. She did! We re-united, and it has been a wonderful experience!
A favorite birthday memory is one that involves my dad. For his 78th. birthday, I asked what he wanted. He said he wanted a cake with as many layers as he would be old. I HAD A TIME WITH THAT REQUEST! I baked all the layers, and began assembling it the night before, when he’d gone to bed. I got 49 layers high, before it started giving signs I could stack no more! I let him see the freezer full of the remaining layers the next morning as he laughed at my efforts! Knowing he found pleasure in that was worth it all. It was great to hear him laugh!
My birthday wish would be for everyone to give some points to New Orleans Children’s Hospital(NOCH) by leaving comments and “10” ratings on articles posted here on Gather, to help buy books for the children.
I would be thankful to Janelle for the song, ‘Silent Night’. I Haven’t heard it much this year.
I truly feel your birthday wish is an admirable one and many people will comply and donate their comments and ratings for a very worthy cause.
Happy Birthday Virginia, and we wish you many, many more.
Note to the birthday club members. If you have not yet submitted your birthday dates to me please to so. I need to prepare well enough in advance. Furthemore, when I send you the questions to do your celebration I need to have them back, at least one day prior to your birthday.
