I dream that words can change the world. Perhaps I get the idea from having to recite the Gettysburg Address from memory in 7th grade, with all the fear and drama that entailed for a shy kid. It was one of the most powerful things a teacher ever asked me to do. I have been stirred to action by the words of many great speakers until I have come to believe that words have power. Maybe it’s a silly hope now, in a world so paralyzed with discord, but I cling to it nonetheless.
I have always been affected by the idea of extinction and some months ago I published the words to this song on Gather, because the re-discovery of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker re-lit some flame of hope that we would be able to continue to live on this planet without destroying all its great birds in the process. A number of you kindly asked me to publish a link to the song when I had it recorded, and here it is. The best I’ve been able to do is still a home recording, but I hope you will be able to listen beyond that. Your comments may help me add quality to the piece. You will find the soundtrack at www.gerrywass.net and thanks for listening!
