I can admit it. I like another teen feel good romantic comedy just like the next chick. But this one may just take the cake.
Tonight I watched Saved, starring Mandy Moore, Macaulay Culkin, and Jena Malone, just to name a few.
The opening line says it all. “ I was reborn my whole life”, said the narrator and main character Jena Malone.
I thought that I would write a little snippet about it here on Gather because I think that so many of us could really use an hour and a half of our lives watching this cute and quirky little teen coming of age film.
The main character, Mary, played by Malone decides to have sex with her boyfriend so that God can save him from being gay. Needless to say he is still found by his parents to have gay porn under his bed and is shipped off. Mary, meanwhile, is left in her very Christian school and soon finds out that she is pregnant.
Mandy Moore plays a somewhat psycho female character that seems to do just about everything evil in her powers all the while claiming God as sending her all of the help that she needs to fulfill her own little evil prophecies.
I have to say that the film really reminded me of the Christian movie version of one of my teenage favorites, Heathers.
Of course like all feel good teen romantic comedies all is well in the end.
Do you think that good triumphs over evil in the film? I do! At least all extremes here are covered, exposed, and even attempt is made to understand it all. Which is at least more than I can say in the real world when it comes to any form of extremism.
I am interested to see if any of you have seen the film. What did you think? Do you think that it would help people on both sides of Jesus’ fence to see over to the other side?
If you didn’t see it, check it out. It’s no worse than any other cheesy teen movie out there, but all wrapped up with sarcasm’s little bow all around it. But hey, I love Bollywood. Who am I to judge? Or more so, as the movie points out quite well, who is anyone to judge anything or anyone?

And as for my movie habits, who can beat my compfy couch, a stiff whiskey and ginger or a glass of whine, a bag of pretzels, and my dog. I love watching movies at home!
I am so sad that you did not capture this miraculous event. It is in the end nature and it's true miraculous shows that will save us all if any of us are tuned in enough to appreciate them, no matter what our faith!!! Mother earth teaches us a lot of lessons, doesn't she?
But as one of my FAV photo professors, John H. White, always tells me, "You captured this moment with the camera of your heart or your memory" and that is what always counts in the end.
Ya know, I think you and him would agree on a lot. He was featured in Christian Science Monitor (that is right?) and he is one hell of an amazing man!
I am so jealous that you caught those northern lights!!! Uhhhh, that is one thing that the camera of my heart has yet been blessed to experience! Great day, huh Jeff?
Yeah I know Im an idot! Ive gone up north before and forgot to pack the camera. Im just an ametuer but I plan to take classes at UW madison this summer.
Christians arent all that bad. the more you meat the more you see. The media shows you the kooks but tey are the most amazing people you could know if you meat them all.
Stay sweet!
Hey thats what the media does, and to think that is what I go to school for. Thank god I am heading for the peace corps next year, my chance to make right before I am "one of them!"
I have met many Christians and they are all sweet as pie, and all just trying to make right in there own way! I am not here to judge, at all! The media shows us nothing but the kooks on all sides of both fences. But that is the mainstream media, funded by corporate dollars, and chosen by what the public ratings pick... But then they choose Brittney and Tom too, don't they??
yeah I remember when you told me we probably agreed even though we were disagreeing. Hehe. I have a habit of defending Christians even when I dont agree with everything they stand for. I get called a reich wing extremist by left wingers and get called a "moderate" that doesnt have enough balls to see the truth by the right. Whatever....
Yes making an impact is important. Your letter with the visuals and words in your "returning home" article. Almost made me cry:(
So many think that article was about a guy. And, in a way it was. But it was sooooo much more about me and my own realizations about myself. I had not realized that so many tall mountains, even the himilayas that I trekked, were not quite so high...
That was what I was not prepared to return from.
