Okay, here's my story on this morning with a touch of humor from a 4 year old girl:
My appointment was a 8:30 AM. I woke up at 6:00 AM with a pounding headache. A quick shower eased the pain slightly. I dressed then proceeded to wake up my children. My daughter (age 4) was able to dress herself as I woke up my 2 year old son. We are working on him learning to dress with minimal help, so I picked up my 10 month old son from his crib, changed his diaper and dressed him while aiding the 2 year old with his pants and shirt. Socks on, shoes on, hair in place, we inhaled a granola bar for breakfast just before walking out the door at 8:15.
I felt rushed as I crept through traffic, yet somehow managed to arrive at the parking lot at exactly 8:30. Having never been to this doctor's office before, I asked directions of the parking attendant. Baby in stroller and two kids in tow, I ventured across the street to the professional tower of the hospital building. I followed the arrows directing me to the physicians offices. The hallway ended at elevators with a directory of where to find whom. Dr. Newton - 806; that meant I had to go to the 8th floor. I pushed the up button on the elevator and climbed aboard, making sure I left no child behind. We arrived on the 8th floor and I walked down the hallway to a door labeled: "Dr. Newton - OB/GYN Solo Practice"
I pushed the door open and signed in; it was 8:50 and they were waiting on me. My children grabbed a couple of books to read as I fed a snack to the baby. My name was called after about 5 minutes' wait and we made our way to the exam room. A nurse kept an eye on my children as I gave a urine sample. Then my weight and blood pressure was taken and we slipped into a private room.
My daughter is a very curious child (who isn't?) and she began to look around the room as it was just the four of us waiting the arrival of the doctor. She asked about the sonogram contraptions. I explained that it was how they were to see the baby in Mommy's tummy and we could see it on the screen. Satisfied, she moved her eyes around the room and spotted a chart with the reproductive system drawn on it. "Mom! This doctor does tonsils too!" I peered behind me to see what she was talking about and kept my mouth shut. I will not explain what was on that poster. But I will say, she stayed by my shoulders during the examination. I did not want her looking at my "tonsils."
(To explain her reasoning, our 2 year old had his tonsils removed 2 months ago. At the ENT's office were charts and posters of ears, noses and throats, which included tonsils.)
The doctor viewed the baby to get measurements and see a good, strong heart beat. I am showing 10 weeks, with an EDD of 07/07/07. She was kind enough to print a picture of the "peanut" for each my 4 and 2 year olds.
For this I am thankful: There is only one in my tummy and my daughter cleary shows her innocence/ignorance of sexuality!

By the way, I need to add to this story that when the screen was first turned on, she "saw that the baby was a girl." Her heart is truly set on a sister. I am praying that is what this one is as well. 10 weeks and we shall find out.
I would love to have a 4D sonogram, Lori. Not much chance of that though.
