Kyiv, Sep-3-2002- Based upon a study using 1100 Type-2 diabetes patinets, it has been determined that a diet additive consisting of "kasha" a porridge or cereal made from cracked or whole buckwheat groats has been successful in lowering blood-glucose levels by a significant margin.
The patients ranging from 24 to 87 years of age, all ate 1-3 servings per day of kasha that were between 125 ml to 400 ml per serving. One serving per meal was eaten. The control group ate exactly the same foods but without the kasha. An excellent example is, Yaroslav D. Borkin, age 46, his average Blood-Glucose at morning/fasting went from 146 to 92. Mrs. Maya L. Galuvskaya, age 61, averaged 166 before the diet and averages 100 now that she uses the diet. Their HgA1C averages went down correspondingly over the 1 year test period as well.
Kasha is high in fiber, nourishing and may be eaten in a variety of ways. Kasha is part of a traditional diet for diabetics usually used in rural Ukraine to help treat diabetics. This is a healthy, tasty and nutritious diet additive.
Some of those persons who participated in the test were able to cease the use of insulin completely and some were even able to totally cease any type of diabetes medication at all. Exercising regularly, eating moderate amounts of food and eating kasha has been successful in the reduction of BG levels in these patients. Research is continuing on this interesting subject to determine if other foods or combinations of foods can be used to treat diabetes in natural methods.
*NOTE:
This diet is now part of the diabetic diet information given to all dioabteics in Ukraine by the Min. of Health.

Can we get Kasha here in the US? If so, do you recommend any particular producer?
Is there any certain way that it should be prepared?
