Quicksand.
Millions of Land of the Lost and other various cartoons could not be wrong. Quicksand is certain death. And when you are facing certain death.....that will be the day the landscapers came through an hour earlier picking up all the long saving sticks, random discarded ropes, and they will be long gone so they won't help you either.

As an impressionable child I'm sure I saw people drown in quicksand in the movies. I think one of my Trixie Belden books may also have prominently featured a tale of death by quicksand. Thanks, entertainment industry, for scaring the wits out of kids everywhere with your tales of grisly quicksand deaths!
I remember walking to school and hoping, hoping that if I did not make it that they wuold check the playground....copious amounts of sand there. And it looked strangely quick in puddled areas.
well, you know.
You can always use rope guys.
