A Tea Party With Friends
Warm sunshine beams down
Through twinkling birch leaves
On a small meadow where spring flowers grow.
Lavender lady slippers,
White petals of windflowers,
Bowing together as soft breezes blow.
Tiny hands placing
Toy china teacups
On the sawed-off stump of a maple tree,
As she sings a gay song
She serves small candy hearts
Printed I Love You, Do you love me?
Our hostess pours water
Flavored with mint leaves
From her wee teapot into the cups
She spins in a circle
She samples a candy
She smiles a small smile as she daintily sups
Remembering her guests
She looks up through the branches
And sees us perched waiting, watching her play
In our flowing green dresses
And shimmering wings
We fly down to toast the first summer day
