stumped for ideas for kids on your gift list?? here's part one of lillie's favorite books this fall. she's 4.5 yrs old, and loves paris, art, clever things, and laughing. these books certainly fill the bill....

flotsam, by david weisner
no words - just glorious images and great creativity. if this book doesn't win an award, i will be surprised! one of lillie's very favorites, especially given the nautical theme...
adele & simon - barbara mcclintock
these two siblings wend their way home through paris, all the while simon is losing items. on each page, you can find the item he's lost. excellent historical drawings, and many familiar landmarks. lillie loves paris, and she LOVES this book. this book reminded her to save her allowance for paris!
artists' helpers enjoy the evenings - m.b. goffstein
lillie, as an artist, is always looking for artsy books. this is one - the colors (named in french) mix and show how colors are related. gorgeous!
an egg is quiet - dianna aston and sylvia long
what a great nature book - it has beautiful paintings of all sorts of eggs, from shark eggs to ostrich eggs to butterfly eggs. very inspiring to all of us to get outside and look around!
g is for one gzonk - tiny diterlooney (tony diterlizzi)
such a fun alphabet book, poking fun at all the other, more 'traditional' alphabet books. this one made us laugh - and do our alphabet with very different words than we'd been using!
mommy - maurice sendak
this one is a real joy. we shared it at thanksgiving with the family, and everyone loved it. only a few words (mommy!), it has the best fold-outs ever. the egyptian scene, in particular, is eye-catching. as a family who loves the macabre (gorey, addams family, etc.), this one was a home-run in our family!

john, paul, george & ben - lane smith
this is one of the most fun history lessons i've ever read! it jokes around about the historical themes of each president. i can't stop laughing at the john hancock part!!
klimt and his cat - berenice capatti and octavia monaco
i love klimt's paintings - this book was a joy to read and view - such saturated colors, and full of cats! lovely story of the artist and his art.
why did the chicken cross the road? - jon agee, mo willems, and 13 other funny artists
each of the 15 artists featured in this picture book answers the age-old question in hilarious (and new) ways. lillie couldn't stop laughing at this one! as you can see - none of the photos i took of lillie reading this book were still enough because she was giggling so hard. consider this an action shot...

part 2 will be coming up in a few days - if i can pry the books out of lillie's hands, that is....

My daughter loved the Mr. Men and Little Miss series when she was Lillie's age. They're short and funny - sure to make her smile - as well as introducing different types of personalities to kids.
stinky cheese man - she's had that on tape since before she was born!! :) in utero, it started. what a hoot. she also loves the matzo ball man...
thanks!
After, breakfast we proceeded to work down Boylston Street -- all the while he is asking as we place all his favorite "toy & gadget stores" is this it? We finally arrived ...It was The Boston Public Library and that day I gave my son the greatest gift, I believe a parent can give a child...a library card!
Merry Christmas to you, Ed and our Princess of the sea! ox Mo-zy

Don't have kids of my own, and I'm a little old to be reading these.
Thanks for the suggestions though!
