I put up a practice test that they could all do before the test... only about a third have bothered so far though

I think a lot of students are too over confident so they don't bother doing it.

or they scramble to do it the morning of... should have heard the outcry when I hid their practice test at the start of class, the last time

lol. i just had finals here at Weber State and i actually flunked every exam. i just had a difficult semester carrying 17 or 18 credit hours

ouch... that would bite! I'm doing full time university plus teaching part time at the college level... but it's almost all english, so it's essays.. I can write essays, fortunately

Hey, Mark. I had a semester (or possibly a couple) like that myself (at Utah State, BTW). I was majoring in English. I lost my mind and signed up for four literature courses at once ("The Bible as Literature" was one--nothing TOO ambitious). I nearly went blind trying to keep up with all the reading. Had to take incompletes on most of them. Ah yes, the sweet life of the student.

I cheat.... get all the book lists before the semester and read as much as I can before it even starts ... still had to read a LOT during the semester, but it did make it easier

it's included in one of the courses i'm taking next semester.... should be ~fun~

I have 3 courses with the same prof... and he's one that seems to think we should not only be able to read, but also MEMORIZE huge amounts of information every week ... it'll be a lot of work... but at least I (usually) do well in his courses.

Just checked... a few more of my students have ~found~ the practice test... hopefully they'll all get to it before tomorrow.

it's computer studies.... not like an essay question is necessary ... most of the certifications that my students will need depend on multiple choice questions... besides, there's a ~way fun~ hands on component as well...and that part, they didn't get a practice test for.
