We are all capable of coming up with something we can be grateful for. Whether it's your cat or dog, your kids, your job, your home, your health, or that you got yet another great parking space, looking for reasons to be thankful is really good for the soul.
Strangely enough, I am even thankful for my mistakes. I have a plethora of screw-ups in my 43 years of history on this planet." I wish I hadn't.." is no longer in my vocabulary, however. It's really all in your perspective. If I did something wrong, I remind myself that there is an obvious lesson there. Really, what can we do about screw-ups? We can't reverse time, we can't wish away the deed. The best we can say is, "I know I will". I know I will do better next time. I know I will say yes to losing that weight. I know I will tell my husband I love him today.
When we are thankful, we tend to open up a place in our heart that grows deeply with time. It doesn't mean we won't have bad days. Hormones control us enough as it is. Nothing makes me madder than estrogen ruling my day, but I'm even thankful for that. Without monthly hassles, I certainly wouldn't have the wonderful family that I have.
I read somewhere to find a gratitude rock, just any old rock that you happen to like, and keep it in your pocket, or someplace that you can readily get to it. It works. When I see the rock, or feel it in my coat pocket, it always seems to be at just the time that I needed reminding that life doesn't suck that bad. If I'm breathing, I need to be grateful.
Take a breath. Now, say thank you.
