We've been here for almost two years but we forget how long that really is until one of our children makes a remark that brings into focus just how long it's been since we lived in Texas.
When we first moved to Barbados, my oldest, then 6 joined a soccer(european football) league here. In Barbados, "tackle" is what they say when they want you to take the ball away from someone else. The moms on the sideline were yelling "tackle, tackle" so my son hurled himself at the kid with the ball and took him OUT. Since he was a head taller than most of the kids, the moms were stunned to silence at this violent American kid. He, of course, came up with a big grin on his face, "Mommy, did you see me? They said to tackle and I did." Oh boy did we get some dirty looks.
Fast forward two years and my husband has started encouraging the same son to start watching football with his dad. A clip of a Texas A&M game came on. He looked at the helmets and remarked, "ATM? They must really like money at that school!" Do you think they'll let us come back to Texas when the contract is up? I guess it's okay. We're Longhorn fans anyway.
