I have never been attracted to crochet or knitting. Both just seemed way too complicated and it took too long to create the end result. Those of you who have been reading my articles know that I have been bitten by the knitting bug. I don't think I'll ever learn to knit with needles, but I love doing it the old-fashioned way -- with a loom.
Above is my first scarf, knitted on a round Knifty Knitter loom. It needs some serious blocking to get rid of the curl. Otherwise, I'm totally in love with it. It is soft and warm because it is a double thickness of yarn and I used some of the softest yarn I could find. I love the feel of it against my skin.
My favorite project on the round looms is this multi-fiber scarf. I actually followed a pattern for a lacy baby afghan -- but it was just the right thing for a light, decorative scarf. It's big enough to stretch down over my shoulders or to simply arrange around my neck like a cowl neck. Here's me being silly taking a picture of myself wearing the scarf.
Since making those scarves, and a few other things on round looms, I bought Knifty Kniter's set of long, straight looms. T hat opened up and even wider range of possibilities. The first thing I made was this narrower scarf that I can also use as a belt. I'm hoping to work it into what I wear next week and see if I get any reactions from my co-workers.
It's nice to have more than one loom because I can have more than one project going at the same time. I had actually started this next scarf/collar first, but then wanted to make the belt above in a hurry to go with some of my clothes. When I started the teal, beaded scarf/collar, I was planning on making it like the multi-fiber scarf a bove, only narrower and not quite as long. As I work ed on it, I got the idea of connected it in this overlapping way and then adding a straight section. When I took it off the loom, it begged for beads or buttons or something decorative. So I added 5beads to the bottom edge.
As you can see, I have been knitting away. I have been wanting to upload the images of my projects for a long time, but each time I start to do it, I get another idea for a project I want to start. So I put the computer away and start knitting.
Currently I'm working on a scarf for a co-worker. It's hard to make this one only because my friend only wears neutral colors. I love bright, vibrant colors, so this is a real switch for me. But I do like the way it is working up. And it, too, will be a different style from all of the other scarves I've made.
I love the endless possibilities with the looms. And I love that it is simple enough that I can try something out on my own (without a pattern) and it still turns out nice.
If you don't hear from me all winter, you'll know what I'm doing!
P.S. I told you it was an addiction!
