This is not about a dream. I was wide awake. I had gone to bed early (for me) a couple nights ago and after a few hours something woke me up. At my advance age one would think it was a nature call, but not this time (what the heck, I went there anyway since I was awake). I usually sleep with earplugs to cut the morning noises made by my spouse, but whenever I get up out of bed, even in the middle of the night, I take them out so I don't feel "unbalanced".
My bedroom is in the back of the house, and so after the bathroom visit I glanced into the spare room on my way back to bed. We have blinds on the bedroom window, but there is a street light that brightens the room. This night, it acted as a backlight for what was going by my window. It looked like a group of just small heads and shoulders silently drifting by, and my first thought was that it was a car coming into the cul de sac. But as I watched, almost immediately another small group of 'heads' went by! There was no noise outside, and no wind to move any trees or bushes to create this movement.
Curiously, I wasn't scared. Partly because the "alarm cat" wasn't freaking out, so that was a bit calming. My husband was snoring in the other room, but he could fend off ET if I needed him to. I walked down the hallway and into the living room to see if maybe I had just missed the car going by and waited to see if it would come back out of the cul de sac to solve my mystery sighting. Nothing. No one coming home and going in their house.
We have motion lights on the back of the house but we don't always leave them on. I went to the dining area and turned one on, waited a bit to see if someone had been going into our back yard. I was thinking rationally that it could have been a re-visit by the kid that the cops hauled out of our car canopy last December. He had been hiding in our '64 Chevy II and we had no clue he was in there until 7 police cars appeared in front of our house that day. But I digress....
My sleep is much more important to me than possible ET sightings or car burglers, so I left the motion detector light on, and snuggled back into my bed. Aliens, or a hallucination? Or just a weird night in Podunk.

I would have woke up the hubby...lol
but the cat alarm would have made me feel better also...
funny how if the cats ok, it makes a HUGE difference ;-)
Tim, I thought everyone called them greys.... ET, I mean. I will have to ask next time I see them. Ha!
i'm with Tim, well, not really-- but greys? i had no clue, either, but I thought at first you meant Very tall canadian geese. who knew?
in closing, and because i'm so sleep deprived from your weird night, i want to sing you my alma mater song -- "be kind to your web-footed friends, for a duck may be somebody's mother!" that's all i remember because that was about 400 years ago, and i had better things to do with my college time than Anything actually to do With college.
thanks! your article gave me a great wake-up laugh to go with my 2nd pot of coffee.
i may have said this before in response to another of your articles, but will say it again-- i Love the way you write; and your sense of humour just cracks me up!
