I came across this poem the other day and I just thought I would share it with all my gather friends cause it really hit home for me.  :)  Hope yall enjoy it as much as I did. 

 

If Tears Could Build A Stairway

If tears could build a stairway,

and memories a lane.

I would walk rigt up to heaven

and bring you back again.

 

No farewell words were spoken,

No time to say "Goodbye".

You were gone before I knew it,

and only God knows why.

 

My heart still aches with sadness,

and secret tears still flow.

What it meant to love you-

No one can ever know.

 

But now I know you want me

to mourn for you no more;

To remember all the happy times,

life still has much in store.

 

Since you'll never be forgotten,

I pledge to you today-

A hollowed place within my heart

is where you'll always stay.

A G.....amazing. The first person I thought of when I was reading it was also my dad.....he died when he was only 40 and I was 13.

Sonia ~ My dad passed away almost 5 years ago and this year I seem to having a really difficult time with it. Maybe cause there is so much going on in my life and I just wish he was here to help me deal with it.

A G....my father died 56 years ago and I still miss him and wish I had him near to counsel me...........that wish and yearning will never die

Sonia ~ I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who misses there dad after a few years. I have other people tell me that they don't think about their relatives that have died. I'm thinking I don't know how you do it cause I am a mess all the time. I think it drives my hubby crazy at times, though he never got to meet my dad.

A G. The missing will never go away. Sometimes it is deeper than others, but it is always there. That is normal.

I had someone tell me once that as long as we remember them, they will always be with us. I truly believe that.

Sonia ~ I wish I had someone tell me that. I could have used it during his funeral. It was very rough on me. I will have to remember that now, that you have told me. :)

A G. This poem always needs tissues. Has been a favorite of our family for years.
It was sent to my mom when my brother passed away. And we used it for both of our parents passings. *10 months apart* And then my sister used it 1 year later, for her daughter's memorial....

It is true. As long as we remember, they will always be with us....

Melanie ~ Oh I'm sorry to hear about your loss. What a sad time, losing your brother, your parents and a niece. Its horrible enough to loss one but all 3 of them within two years. :(

I think I've read this poem somewhere before. This is my favorite part:


But now I know you want me

to mourn for you no more;

To remember all the happy times,

It's hard to remember that when you're mourning, but we must do it for their sakes and ours. Two of my grandparents passed away within two years, and I think to myself, How would they feel if they were able to see me and I'm still distraught after over a decade has passed? I want to be at peace so they can rest in peace.

Latasha ~ You're right. We do need to remember that even when its hard. Those of us who have lost loved ones, I am sure that they would want us to move on. Of course we need our grieving time but we do need to move on eventually. I'm learning this little by little with my dad. I still miss him and there are days when its really horrible but then there are days that I forget that he really isn't with us cause he still has a special place in my heart.

My father came from a long-lived family. I expected him to live to at least 100 years old. He died on Christmas Eve morning after fighting bone cancer for three years, about a month before his 80th birthday. So many people would consider that a full life, but for me, it came too early.
