Think I'll go eat a Peach....?
You spelled Lynyrd Skynyrd correctly, and I mis-spelled Molly Hatchett ! lol
Then there's ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, CCR.
"Woa black betty bam alam "
That little guitar solo/run in the middle of that song is a bitch to play !
Of course, if it's one o' them newfangled electronic voting machines it won't be counted anyway...
Slobberbone was an odd but *very* cool southern rock group with dark humorous lyrics. The Drive By Truckers are still together. If you like southern country rock you definately should give them a listen.
Songs like 'Texas Twister' will get you on your 'feat', and "The Feelin's All Gone" will give you the anthem for jilted lovers...powerful lyrics and strong bass lines.
But....NOBODY remembers "The Outlaws"?????
If there was ever a band that worked four electric guitars to the max, THAT was THE southern rock band to see!...."Waterhole", "There Goes Another Love Song", "Green Grass and High Tides" are a few of their most familiar songs.
Shannon....Great additions from you as well.
I'm with you on the Allman Brothers.
You have a great list. I want to check out Brothers Cain and Government Mule.
I saw Jackyl in a small venue. They offered conversation and autographs after the show and were very gracious.
I also saw Molly Hatchet in a bar in 2001. The guitarists (one of the original members) was a heavy old guy but he played licks effortlessly and was the nicest guy ever. They, too, offered autographs after the show.
Check out www.allsouthernrock.com for new bands in the same genre. There is some very good stuff with the spirit of the 70s alive!
Thanks!
