I have this thing where I always turn on VH1 first. If I don't like what is on that channel I go to MTV. I use the video channels in the 100's and not the tv shows (which suck). Lately, it seems like every other rap video is the same. I mean come on people, do you need to play them over and over? Don't get me wrong, I don't hate rap. I love Eminem. I like Snoop Dog. I cannot stand some of it. It just isn't creative. I love rock. That's why I watch those stations. I love Hinder, U2, Green Day, The Frey, All American Rejects. I think Christina Arguila has an amazing voice and Beyonce can really sing well. Too bad you have to listen to crap to watch them.
Now, the country music station is the next station on my TV. I find myself turning there more and more. I never used to listen to country music. Now, I find myself thinking Trace Atkins is awesome. I love Sugarland, Dierks Bentley and the guy who sings "Just to be your man". The country music station tends to actually be happier than the other two stations.
Who wants to sit around depressed because they hate their lives (over half of today's rock songs) or singing about what every, no make that every, rap song is about. We'll see how hard that is to figure out. Rap songs are great when they are creative and unique. Black eyed peas seem to do a good job of mixing.
Anyway, maybe Trace Atkins is right and Ladies love country boys. Maybe this is a sign I'm getting old. Or maybe MTV and VH1 need to play better stuff.

I'm as eclectic in my taste in music as I now am in the rest of my life. Bob Seger, Kid Rock, Rod Stewert, Ray Boltz, Casting Crowns, Celine Dion, almost all of Reba Mcentire's songs, Shania Twain, Toby Keith, Brooks and Dunn (I Am That Man) Alan Jackson, Funny/crazy/sweet, Dolly Parton, Travis Tritt, and well, you get the picture.
However, this is how it plays out with me. For videos - I like the most creative, and am always looking for something different. I clean to fast pop or upbeat rock, because it gets me in the mood to move. If I am depressed, I play country, because my life is never as bad as theirs. Plus the country boys we watch today are country MEN. As to where, the rock boys we used to watch are retired and the new ones are merely BOYS.
When VH1 has music on (gosh, when will that happen again?) I prefer them.
MTV sucks now. NEVER music. Country, plays hours of music.
When I want to remember and invoke my creative side, I play rock from when I was a teenager.
You can often find me listening to music from the 80's, blasting loud, on my daughters Strawberry Shortcake radio (man I need to get my own...) while washing dishes.
As far as rap goes, I like rap that isn't violent. I like movies that aren't horrors. I don't like watching awful things on the news. Yet, I really enjoy a creative totally evil book.
Sorry for ramblin Shel. I miss ya. Call me tomorrow....
