Great Family Movie

Eight below is based on a true story about Antarctic explorers and sled dogs. One scientist has been injured and he has to be flown out immediately to get care at a hospital. A winter storm is coming and they aren't sure when or if they will be able to get back to their polar base before the storm hits. This is at the same time they were planning to back up and leave for the winter anyway since the weather is too brutal to stay at the base. They don't want to leave anyone behind in case a return trip is impossible before Spring. Since the helicopter cannot fit all the crew and the sled dogs, they have to leave the dogs behind and hope they will be able to make a return trip for them after dropping the injured scientist at the hospital.

The story is about the next six months when the dogs have to fight for their survival and the mission the sled dogs trainer goes on to try to get back to rescue the dogs.
