Apocalypto is set to be relaeased this Friday and it has already garnered rave reviews from critics. Variety magazine called it a "remarkable" film that gives audiences "hitherto unseen sights of exceptional vividness and power, " and Rolling Stone magazine described Apocalypto as "a tremendously exciting chase movie" that was "breathtaking to watch".
Still, Mel Gibson is no longer just a director. His name has become irrevocably associated with anti-semitc. Many people cannot forget the anti-semitic, as well as sexist (remember the sugart--s remark?) words spoken by an inebriated Mel Gibson a few months back. And others didn't like his protrayal of the Jews in The Passion of the Christ.
I think Apocalypto looks AWESOME, and I really want to see it, but not badly enough to put money in Gibson's pockets. So I've decided that I am goign to pay for a movie ticket for a different movie and sneak into a theatre playing Apocalypto, or just download a bootleg.
Will you go see it?

From the trailers I've seen of this movie it looks absolutely excellent and at least it's not some stupid remake or another sequel.
(And, BTW, this saucy Aussie IS, to be sure, a bit of an asshole. Saying stupid, insensitive, bigotted things isn't excused by having drunk a wee bit too much. All the booze does is remove the inhibitions--i.e., common sense--and permit the uglier parts of the iceberg that normally reside underwater to come to the surface.)
Don't mind the obscure Central American Indian dialect as long as there are subtitles. I can hack those.
Should be interesting to see how Gibson brings a dead civilization to life. I was happy with his potrayal of medieval Britain and ancient Judea. I'll take a chance on this.
Yes!
"F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world."
is anti-Israel and not antisemitic?
