Anyone Care to Interpret This Dream?

Wow! We had a dream last night that someone was dreaming about The Waltons. And now it's come true...

Hmmm... I don't know, but Mylon, my pet tarantula, awakened early this morning with a serious case of the heebie-jeebies which worried me; he said he'd dreamt that some demented old geezer wanted to eat him! You don't suppose...nah, just a coincidence! ;o)
Honestly - do you ever fall asleep with Walton re-runs on TV? My wife occasionally dozes off and dreams a part of whatever she last heard on TV or radio before she slipped into the deeper sleep. Just a thought!

Is it possible that you are trying to emulate john boy and be a successful writer like him? Maybe there is turmoil in your life now, and the Waltons take you back to a simpler time, a comfortable place. The importance of the spider is fear, you are relating a very real fear to your fear of having your writing accepted.

Could be that Jody is right. But I think your fear will be unfounded, because it was a Dead spider. Don't let your fear(s) stop you from pursuing your talent!...don't know, but I've got a feeling you're gonna find some success with your writing(I hope so for ya!)

The Waltons, that is interesting Cheryl especially three nights in a row! I think it represents family also, especially sitting down to dinner with them. Virginia has a good point that the tarantula was dead (I hate spiders, too) so maybe it is about overcoming fear or realizing that what you are fearing right now won't hurt you?

Laurie, a very interesting comment with regard to "sitting down to dinner". As a child, this is one of the consistently happy memories I have of my childhood...sitting down each night to dinner as a family. This is also something that I have tried (and failed) to emulate in my own family, because it seems everyone is always going in twenty different directions.

Virginia...I like the idea that the dead spider might represent an unfounded fear. I was afraid it might be some kind of omen of something bad going to happen.

Here's a quick interpretation for you, Cheryl. Perhaps you long for the Walton type days, but real life just gets in the way, the spider signifies real life, of course. And yes, like you I was quite the fan of the Waltons.

Thanks, Cecile. I don't think I mentioned this, but John Boy was actually my inspiration to start journaling and writing my poetry and prose. I loved the way he could take the simplest events and write about them so beautifully.

I'll take a stab at it...just for the fun of it.

Native American symbolism sees the spider archetype as the keeper of the past and its connection to the future. Spider is the symbol of Fate, the weaver of the past into the future, a teacher, a destroyer, even a trickster. Depending on the details of the dream, it could also be symbolic of a smothering individual in your daily life.

When your life has undergone a massive and turbulent change, spiders appear as malevolent creatures, attacking and feeding on you. This symbolizes the perception that your' energies (life-force, if you will) are being drained by outside sources, and the feelings of entrapment and helplessness that surrounded them.

The fact that this is a show that you viewed in the past it might indicate the linking of something from this past to your' future. Of course, it could also mean nothing, but, the fact that the scenario is repetitive indicates a deeper meaning...it's trying to tell you something. Maybe someone is using you? A relative, perhaps...that was also prominent in your' life back in the days of "The Waltons" TV series.

I wouldn't try to analyze your dream but I must say that it seems better that the tarantula was dead than alive given that it was in the cereal box. On the other hand, it would not be better for the poor spider.

I think dreams are very personal and a good interpretation may come in due time to you. Our dreams are telling us something, but again as I say it is very personal and can't be the same for all. Write it down and sooner or later you will be the one to understand its meaning.

The waltons have always been a family that I think at one time or another we all wished we were a part of. Not sure what the spider is all about...LOL

Cheryl no one can really interpret your dreams. They are yours after all. I interpret my dreams the way Jung taught. Think of yourself as being each character in your dream. What does it feel like to be John Boy? for example. You are Walton's Mountain. How does it feel to be Walton's Mountain? You can go on more as it pleases you but I would ask myself, "What does it feel like to be a Tarangula being dumped out to the cereal box? Dreams have taught me much about myself. Sometimes though dreams are just too much pizza! Bert

Hi, Cheryl. Spiders are very powerful symbols for some cultures: a sign of a WRITER (spiders spin webs, writers weave webs of words); also a sign of a HEALER.

The Waltons are "All-American"....and "all American" usually has something to do with FREEDOM.

If a spiderWRITER is dead, then perhaps FREEDOM OF THE PRESS has been compromised, if this is not a personal dream but rather a dream of group consciousness.........

Cheryl, ultimately only dreamer can interpret the dream. I believe we are every part of the dream. The Walton family, the cereal box , the spider are all parts of you wanting to communicate something. Traditionally spiders are a good thing, symbolic of feminine power and creativity. I dream of spiders when I'm ignoring my writing. Since your spider was dead, it might be a message to reawaken someone dormant in you. I do recommend writing the dream down and going back to it later. You can also finish or change the outcome of the dream to your satisfaction. Hope this helps.

Tarantulas are BIG. Did you start something big a number of years ago?

Carolion. I have started several BIG things a number of years ago...in several areas of my life. So far, none of them have been completed. All are work "in progress", but also at times a source of great frustration.

Simple interpretation: Since you are visiting, you are an outsider, not a permanent resident. Dinner is the equivalent of nourishment, nurturing and social interaction in which they include you temporarily---or you have inserted yourself out of a desire to partake.

However, you are not included entirely within the family structure since they take you outside their family circle for a walk "around." "Around" is not within, nor is it inclusive, but keeps you on the edge.

Sitting with John Boy is significant because you are "sitting" as a learner does with a teacher. "Sharing our writing" is an elusive phrase because it hints at a cooperative piece but I don't think you mean that. I think it's a situation of "you show yours and I'll show mine" type of sharing. You seek a mentor, a beneficent teacher or a role model.

"Breakfast time" equates to new beginnings, dawning of experience. You "stayed overnight" indicates biding time, not necessarily enjoying or benefiting from it, but idling. So you didn't find what you needed and the new dawn is a dawning of realization. This is evidenced by the cereal box which should have nurtured you but instead delivered a "death" of sorts. You are looking for love, acceptance, recognition in all the wrong places.
