I just wanted to show off my brand new gen-yew-wine Red Wing 40th anniversary commemorative Mug. Isn't it lovely? So hard and shiny (to quote Sussman Lawrence)!

The Red Wing Stoneware Co. makes nice solid (and highly collectible) stoneware, so I expect that this mug will last a lifetime. Or at least until the next MPR membership drive...

They're a special premium offered to MPR members. I had just renewed on the next-to-the-last membership drive, and about a month ago during the most recent member drive they sent me a letter to tell me that my contribution level was eligible for an additional member gift, so I picked this.

Kenny, it holds 16 oz. Perfect for my morning Chai.

You know what is SO ironic?
I was going to bid on a similar mug - not as beautiful as yours, but nice - for our own public radio drive; but after I'd rolled three elderly ladies, a drunken old man with a cane and two cub scouts, I was still twenty bucks short. Maybe next year.
At least I didn't get stuck with "brunch with Garrison Keillor" again... he never pays his share, and last time he even scooped up the tip I left!

Now I have to dust the turntable off again! I'll have to dig out that Sussman Lawrence LP with Dick and Jane on the cover. Now that I think of it, I'll have to look on E-Bay for Sussman Lawrence stuff.

Gary, those wonderful Sussman albums were re-released a couple of years ago on CD by Deep Shag records. I picked it up at the Electric Fetus. There are even a couple of unreleased live cuts, including "Tough Suction".

Thank You! I'll see if Cheapo on Snelling has it. If not, I haven't done a visit to the Fetus in years. I live by Cheapo and work by Down in the Valley. I don't get to the Fetus anymore.

My friend's older sister went out with Himmelman for a while in the late 70's and that's how I got started on them.

Minnesota music of past.............. Yesterday, while skating around the outdoor rink in downtown Saint Paul they played an eclectic mix of tunes. One has "Shimmy Shimmy Coco Pop" from the Urban Guerillas. I hadn't heard that tune in a long time.

hi Auntie - I love small things with great meaning - you can always take them with you no matter where you go and a mug has many functions from pure art to functional usable art - you can drink a few hot toddies out of it or just store your pencils, pens and brushes in it. Also, you can use it to scoop out wild bird seed to the birds or sip some good coffee out of - or just stare at it and congratulate yourself for earning it or purchasing it! Salud,
