A baby shower is a celebration of life, filled with excitement, fun games and tiny treats. The shower is a favorite way to bless the new mother with all the items she will need for the coming baby, as well as share with her a bit of motherly wisdom. Every baby shower needs games, delicious recipes, and presents, but there is still more you can offer. The birth of a baby is such an awe inspiring moment, you’ll want to create more beautiful memories to go along with it. Here are five creative ways to create sweet memory makers for your shower.
1. The Hands of Love Shower Scrapbook
All you need is some construction paper, a simply bound scrapbook, and a child volunteer. Trace the child’s hand for a template and use it to cut out enough handprints for each shower guest, plus 10 more just in case. As guests arrive at the party, give each a handprint and ask them to write a note of advice, a prayer, or wish for the baby. Put the hands in the scrapbook along with the guest list, photos of the shower, copies of the written games, a menu list, and any other special mementos.
2. The Interactive Story book
For this you need a notebook or clipboard to pass around the party. The hostess starts the story with “Once upon a time in a beautiful land far away, there was a baby born. This baby was the most loved and special baby in all the lands because……” She can embellish on this, and then pass it on to the next guest. Ask each guest to spin the tale a little more, keeping it sweet, cute, and/or funny. After the party, print this story for the mother-to-be, or add it to the shower scrapbook.
3. A Baby Quilt
There are a few ways you can do this. The easiest way is to simply buy a receiving blanket, or quilt, and a handful of fabric pens. Have each guest sign a note of love on the quilt. Later you can add any extra notes - such as baby poems or nursery rhymes. Another way is to give each guest a pre-quilted fabric square, some fabric paints or pens, as well as any embellishments you’d like. Let each decorate their square, and sew them together after the party. Finally, if you use fleece you can simply tie the individual squares together. Just be sure and cut the tie strips before the guests start their artwork.
4. Two weeks of Dinners
Ask each guest to bring a casserole or freezable entrée and the recipe for it to the shower. Create a simple recipe book for Mommy and place the meals in her freezer. When baby comes, she can focus on the baby and herself, not cooking. The cookbook can be decorated with her baby shower theme.
5. Create a Baby Shower Time Capsule
Have every guest bring a special memento - such as a letter to baby, a photo of Mommy, etc. Put in a small box decorated in the shower theme. One special idea would be for each memento to be a Christmas ornament of some kind for when the baby moved out on their own - for their first tree.
