She was sitting at the boarding area, with her plane ticket on hand. Looking out the window, she watched the rain glistening on the window panes. The sky was gray in color, with a slight tinge of black. Lightning hinted the skies for a few seconds, and she could hear the rolling thunder. It was a sad farewell for her departure.
Tears began falling down her face as if she understood the weather. Leaving her seat, she went towards the window and stood in silence. The rain continued to fall, and so are her tears of loneliness. The atmosphere was crowded with deafening silence, even though some passengers passed by, without the care to notice her.
A cold chill blew across her as she lifted her eyes to the lonely skies. Softly, she began to sing the song that she performed in the bar last week.
Gotta catch that plane at 7:30
Why haven't you come to say goodbye
Time is running out and I'm still waiting
I am so lost without you, I could die
Yesterday you said you loved me
Everything seemed to be fine
Today you are not here, I am so lonely
It's the waiting that's driving me out of my mind
Don't know how I'll sing in that big city
How can I perform if you are not there
This will be the worst of all my journeys
The image of your face will follow me everywhere
I need your tender kisses
The feel of your hands, your caress
Your perfume has me burning
My heart is yearning to touch you I need you so much
If you're not here, by my side
Can't hold back the tears
I try to hide
Don't think I can take it
I know I won't make it
Make it without you
If you're not here, by my side
Only your love, keeps me alive
No sense in dreaming
My life has no meaning
If you're not here
I need your tender kisses
The feel of your hands, your caress
Your perfume has me burning
My heart is yearning to touch you I need you so much
If you're not here, by my side
Can't hold back the tears
I try to hide
Don't think I can take it
I know I won't make it
Make it without you
If you're not here, by my side
Only your love, keeps me alive
No sense in dreaming
My life has no meaning
As she hummed the song, her heart sank. He didn't even show up ever since they broke up. The memories of him made her even lonelier, and she couldn't help but cry. All in her mind now was to give up the love she had once given to him, and make the supreme sacrifice. She wept silently, her face turning pale.
The wall clock continued to move its hands in time as she stood by the window. At this time, she could hear footsteps behind her. A different feeling started to rise up inside as she quickly wiped her tears away.
"Excuse me, miss, do you know where Starbucks is located?" a voice behind her spoke.
She turned around with her head bowed. She couldn't even dare to speak up. The stranger looked at her with wide eyes and said,
"Cassandra! Why are you here?"
She lifted her eyes and was surprised. He showed up. It made her heart beat faster, but soon she remembered the mistake he had done. She stared at the stranger with a serious look on her face.
"Well, hello, Barry." Cassandra replied sternly.
Silence reigned for a few moments. After a long pause, Barry spoke up.
"Are you still angry at me?"
Cassandra made no reply. She looked up to the ceiling with a sarcastic grin on her face.
"I know you won't forgive me for what happened weeks ago," Barry said with a sigh, "I admit that I shouldn't have said those words to you, Cassie. I'm really sorry."
"Is that all you have to say?" Cassandra replied angrily, "You're always doing that from time to time. I had enough of this, Barry. We're over."
Barry took hold of Cassandra's wrist. "No, Cassie..."
"Don't call me Cassie!" Cassandra screamed, breaking free. She tried to run as fast as she could, but a heavy feeling in her belly caused her to fall to the ground. Having seen this, Barry rushed up to Cassandra's side and helped her up, gently patting her on the back.
"Cassie, are you alright?" Barry asked.
Cassandra looked at Barry and frowned. She turned her back in anger.
"Get away from me!" Cassandra retorted.
Barry shook his head and took out two pieces of paper from his coat pocket, handing it to Cassandra.
"Here. Read this."
Cassandra snatched the papers away and read it. On the first one was a DNA Test result, while another one was a custody contract. Upon reading the papers, Cassandra broke down and wept.
"I know everything already, Cassie," Barry added, "I'm really sorry. I wasn't even responsible for this. If only I knew it early, these bad things couldn't have happened."
"But, Barry," Cassandra said, weeping, "I'm also sorry about what I acted, too..."
"It's alright, Cassie," Barry replied, then asked, "So do you forgive me?"
"I already forgave you." Cassandra answered.
Barry gave Cassandra a hug. But before any of them could speak, there was an announcement on the loudspeakers, saying,
"Attention to all passengers of Flight 78739 boarding for Taiwan, the plane is now boarding..."
Having heard the announcement, Barry and Cassandra stood up. They looked at each other's plane tickets.
"How come we sit together?" Cassandra asked, "I didn't even know that you were going to Taiwan."
"I've planned everything in advance." Barry replied, smiling.
After saying this, Barry extended out his hand. Cassandra held out hers, and the two of them walked towards the boarding area. It was exactly 7:30 p.m.
