This has a map of the neighborhoods around Baghdad. Most of the conflict seems to be in and around Baghdad. In Afghanistan, there are warlords who control parts of the mountains. Baghdad has militias which control neighborhoods. When the interior ministry is aiding in the transportation of militants, that is clearly a problem.
I've seen something where there may be some talk of moving marines from Al Anbar to Baghdad.
Also, I see where Iran wants us to leave the region.

Therefore, one will see a lot of discussions on improving the relationships and working with those countries that are their neighbors.
Well, Duh!
As the US put the Shaw of Iran in the country. As well as the US Propped Saddam up and sold Iraq Chemical weapons to use against the Iranians in the Iraq/Iran war, where those chemical weapons killed of almost an entire generation of Iranian men.
One thinks that they will welcome the US with open arms in the area wouldn't ya. Well they don't.
Everyone (Iraqis, the rest of the Middle East and most Americans) wants out of Iraq except for Bush and Don H. ....and Bush is leaning away from Don.
Good move, Mr. President
Iran has been handed an opportunity in Iraq. The Iraq war is costing us Millions of dollars each day and we need to get out. It is unfortunate that we have to deal w/ the devil (Iran) however our options are slim.
Chris,
It is easy to say we need to leave Iraq (everyone wants to leave including Don H). However, the challenge is how we do it with out leaving Iraq in anarchy and destabilizing the entire Middle East. Bush has lost a lot of political capital over Iraq. It is an albatross wrapped around his neck. I am sure he would also love to leave Iraq also. But again how do you do it with out destabilizing the area.
Let the survival after the anarchy of the strongest rule. Many more will die in the struggle and that may be good for the region. Fewer folks in the region, mean fewer folks to feed and with the global warming coming a lot of the region may be under water.
What'd ya think?
Richard,
If there were no repercussions I would say "go for it". Unfortunately we are a fossil driven global economy. If anarchy occurs and spills over to neighboring countries it could destabilize the Middle East. . Price of oil would increase to $300 dollars a barrel. Oil is used from everything, i.e., plastics ect. The cost of everything would dramatically increase. People would stop buying. . Businesses would go bankrupt. The world would enter a deep recession or depression. Until we wean our selves off oil we are dependant on that cesspool called the Middle East.
The good of money is really not one of the better ideas of the fundamental religious folk.
So!
Let the party begin I say.
What has the government done over the years to enhance the trust in other countries, like the Middle Eastern countries.
I heard that there are 23 different militias in Baghdad. It sounds more and more like neighborhood gangs.
