While I do understand the controversy of speech, I am appalled by the egregious behavior here lately.

We want to jump up and down and yell at our monitors while we type in a frenzy to share our own views.  This is acceptable. 

When responding to a comment or an article, there is no problem with addressing a person by name so everyone knows to whom you are speaking.  This is acceptable.

Every person on this site loves free speech, but name calling is unnecessary and uncalled for no matter the topic!  This is unacceptable.

Publishing an article JUST to bash, humiliate or destroy another person IS UNACCEPTABLE!

Each and every single one of you should be above it!

Share your views.  Share your life.  Share your most inner secrets.  Share the artist in you. 

Share the secrets of your past and your dreams for the future. 

But please, do not share your attacks on another person simply because you do not agree with them.  You can still have the pleasure of screaming at your monitor, for that, is acceptable.

I agree that personal attacks are unkind, but everyone around here seems so preternaturally sensitive lately. An article posted in disagreement with another Gatherer's argument or idea is, in my mind, a piece of a larger debate that is being engaged on this site, and does not constitute a personal attack. Why is it that so many of us here fail to see that?

With regards to genuine, outright personal attacks, I agree with you whole-heartedly.
