I've been painting up a storm on wood blocks found in the FREE Wood bin at a fence company in my town. It has been fun to have small blocks of wood sitting on my craft table just there to grab. Sometimes I start out by cleaning my paint brush from another project on a block of wood. As the colors of paint layer, I get an idea of what I might light to do with the block.
One block was just the right size for a postcard. After painting it up, I glued postage stamps and my return address on it and wrote my friend's address using Sharpies. I'm happy to say her wooden postcard arrived within a week and she was thrilled to receive it. I only wish I had scanned it before I sent it off.
I have a few more blocks sitting on my table ready for me to paint. Then I'll have to go raid the FREE Wood bin again. I will have art supplies to keep me busy all winter! ;-)
The three blocks I've shown here will be left as Found Art. I love surprising people with free gifts of art. It's even more fun during this time of the year. It's a great reminder that this is a season of giving -- unconditionally. And a great way for me to give back to my community.
