It was a beautiful Thanksgiving Day here in Arkansas, and one of the highlights was being able to spend time out in the pasture with the horses. For some reason, Poesia - the buckskin - was feeling very full of herself today and put on quite a show for everyone.
As we arrived, Poesia came running up to the gate with Anastacia bring up the rear. Sonata is in the background, carefully watching all the shenanigans, but not inclined to participate.

They arrive at the gate and Poesia swerves and keeps going.
Anastacia is not sure what is going on, but decided that she would follow her fearless leader.

Favorito put on a show in his pasture, running the full length in order to arrive in time for his daily meal.

Poesia finally decides that she is ready to stop running and start eating.

Of course, she has to make her entrance like the wild horse she is portraying.

Once she had her fill she decided it was time to rile everybody up

and get them to join in the game of "Let's all be wild horses today."
Sonata, her dutiful daughter is more than happy to oblige.

Favorito, being a sensible young fellow, can't understand what all the fuss is about.

All in all, it was a grand day to be out with the horses, incredibly thankful that they are a part of my world.

I always LOVED horses. I was besotted with them when I was between the ages of 10 and 12 and couldn't get enough of them. My father was such a dear and bought me numerous photographic books about horses that I treasure to this day. I poured over them for hours, drew them, painted them and gasped and gushed every time I saw one. I only rode once (half hanging off the poor animal at first, but I got the hang of it eventually) but it was an amazing experience for me, and one I have not forgotten.
Thank you for sharing this with us, hon - I am gasping and gushing again!
Carolyn - Glad you enjoyed the pictures -- yes, horses don't purr but they do have a whole range of ways to let you know their state of mind.
Pina - You really made my morning - I'm so glad that you found so much pleasure in these pictures. It is a joy to have these horses in my life and I am so pleased that they gave you an opportunity to gasp and gush and revisit a very sweet moment with your father.
Thanks Carol - I had great fun taking the photos.
carolion - maybe there was just something in the air yesterday? It was the perfect type of weather for horses to be very frisky.
Robiyah - Sounds like you had a great time with the horses from your childhood. Honestly, these days I don't think I could spend much time running with them though they are wonderful to watch.
Nancy - This part of Arkansas is gorgeous - I am in the Ozark mountains. The nice thing is that there are lots and lots of people that don't live here so there is plenty of space for those of us that do. Glad you enjoyed the horses. Their names reflect their Peruvian heritage.
were acting wild yesterday morning also, they must have known it was a
special day.
Lynn - the weather right now is marvelous, isn't it?
Janet - when I was living in New England keeping horses was not a possibility - the cost was just astronomical. In Arkansas, however, everything costs so much less and so we can have the horses without an unmanageable amount of expense. Hmm, now an indoor riding arena would be a nice thing though.
Brenda - We did have a great day. Hope you did as well.
When I was a kid I went through a phase where all I would draw was horses. Running, rearing, standing, draft horses, racing horses, arabians, you name it. Now I remember why - they must be one of the most beautiful creatures ever invented.
I visited my daughter's Quarter Horse, Sunny, on Thanksgiving. She wasn't in the mood to be loved on, though; her dinner was a little late!!
The pictures are great. I've never been to Arkansas, either, and couldn't really picture it. Looks like a great place to go riding!
